It’s the 6GT.

Essentially I have 24 hours to decide between

Ex show room prices
1. X320d luxury line 53.5 (5l discount)
2. X530d DPE - 60 L(17l discount)
3. 6GT - 60L (6L discount)

I am out of the Merc. Promised my wife it will be the next car after 3-4 years.

Also @turbantor I am not sure any of the cars next year are ones I will be able to afford or allowed to buy (Z4)

With this pricing, the X5 30d seems like a no brainer. When I bought my car, the price difference between the X3 20d and the X5 30d was ₹ 20 lakhs (albeit without final negotiations on the X5). Yes, it is an old model on its way out - but the discount you are getting more than compensated for that

X5 30d @ 60L is a no-brainer. A 6.5 L difference between X5 and X3 (with a lesser engine, account another 3-4 L for the difference between 20d and 30d upgrade) is too good to be true. You are literally getting an upgrade to X5 for free.

For the engine alone, go for the X5. Every time you drive it, you will have a :D plastered on your face. That engine + gearbox combination is the best one that exists among diesel cars today. Nothing touches it.

Thanks all for the very nice inputs and the passionate advocacy of the X5 (esp Hayek, Turbanator and GTO). It took me a 10 min drive on the Worli sea face to set aside any misgivings I may have had on the vintage of the machine.

Booked the X5 30d DPE (sparkling brown) at 59 ex showroom. Got some accessories on top. Was vacillating between blue and brown but the blue didnt have Apple carplay so brown it was!

Should put up a post when I get the car on how I budgeted for the X3, got pulled into the E220 and the 6GT and finally and bought the X5 at pretty much the same price :D.

Hey. I am just curious. If you happen to speak to him again, can you please ask your dealer contact what the on road prices are working out to (based on above) for X5 DPE as well as M sport? Thanks.

EDIT: Missed your post on the booking. Congratulations!!!

EDIT: Missed your post on the booking. Congratulations!!!

There were no M sport variants available in Mumbai though the showroom had one on display which was already sold.

My OTR works out to ~74.9l (59 + 15.9), M sport would have been ~5l higher.

Congratulations, Vivek! Axe77, I was offered 73l on road individual as a walk away price. Vivek's price is probably corporate registration.

Yes, I have booked through a corporate lease program so a couple of lacs higher.

Can you all suggest necessary acessories and car care I should stock up on?

I can list below items. Anything else? I am hoping stock tyres are fine. Should I do a paint sealant or paint film? How expensive are those?

Jopasu duster
3M microfiber cloth
Sobby glove type microfiber wash mitt
3M Glass cleaner
3M Car shampoo

The regular 3M cloth should be good, your colour being metallic will show swirl marks pretty fast, 3M- PPF will be a good idea and should cost you 80-100 K for regular 120-130 K for 3M venture shield. Alternatively, you can go for ceramic coating. There are multiple threads.

For interiors, you can order this from here or pick from the 3M store

If you go to your work in a formal dress, a coat hanger and attachment serves well. Looks good too.

And don't forget to buy a Tyre inflator, does help in tricky situations, something like this -
