Re: Mercedes E-Class (W124) Used Value?

Guys there is a W124 E300 petrol for sale in the classifieds. It is a 1994 model, covered just 55,000 kms and imported as a CBU. Asking price is Rs.3,65,000. Is it worth buying such a car or should one stick to the E220/E250 models only?
Will the availability of spares for the 300E be a problem?

Re: Mercedes E-Class (W124) Used Value?

those older mercs were more mechanical than electronic. hence they are more reliable.

i recently saw a nice C Class C 200 Kompressor 2004-2005 model. Automatic Petrol. In Bangalore. 13.5 lacs. New Alloys and new tyres and very well kept. Done hardly 38600 kms. I liked it and it seems a steal.

But I am deeply worried about its electronics and the After sales service costs.

Seems a nice deal. Get it inspected thoroughly at an Authorized Service centre so that you'll come to know the problems with the car and the repairing expenses coming up.
Also find a good Independent garage where you can service the car because servicing it at an authorized garage will cost a lot.
Good luck!

bargain a bit more shankar, sold my 2005 C220CDI automatic for 11.65l and my company's 2006 C22CDI manual for 11.75l in the last few weeks in hyd. used car prices have come down a lot in this segment. these were direct customer to customer deals. no brokers in between.

main reason was we started having a lot of electronic glitches in the end. so watch out, the last two services costed us close to one lac and that was the primary reason on deciding to sell them.

Re: Mercedes E-Class (W124) Used Value?

strangewizard and aadix
as of now merc ownership is only an aspiration
given my kind of user profile, only a rugged, relatively inexpensive, hard as nails SUV will do. diesel power, go anywhere, huge amounts of luggage space to chuck virtually anything in, cheap to run and maintain and no guilt feelings on bad roads etc whenever I go to the hills and so on.
the moment i get tired of this lifestyle is when I will probably consider a merc ish sort of thing but in my opinion the best value for such things is buying them used!

Re: Mercedes E-Class (W124) Used Value?

A person known to me sold his 97 E250D for 4.6 lakh. Not a great example would give it 75 upon 100. The engine sounded real nice even after the 135000kms. Suspension was also good. But the Body and interiors were below par and quite a few electrical niggles were bugging the car. But A/c was fine.
It was a TN car re registered to KL. My friend used it for two years (30k kms) with expenses just for electrical repair and the periodic replacement of oil.

I felt that the price was decent since he bought it for 6.2 lakhs 2 years back

Re: Mercedes E-Class (W124) Used Value?

I couldn't find a good W124, 250d in two years of search in Bangalore so I am thinking of searching for Mumbai models too. Please let me know if any of you have come across this model with good service history. I am open to AP and Tamilandu models too. Thanks.

E250D would be quite difficult to find now. If you are open to the petrol E220 then there are a couple of them in the classifieds.

Re: Mercedes E-Class (W124) Used Value?

Thanks StrangeWizard, However I have this special interest in Mercedes diesels only as I am more of a dieselhead then petrolhead . Yes, its very difficult to find a diesel version of W124. I am talking to few dealers in Mumbai, Chennai and Coimabatore and I will be travelling next month to finalise a deal. I see that you are also in search of W124, lets keep in touch so that we can share each other's stories.

Re: Mercedes E-Class (W124) Used Value?

Saw a couple of C & E Class models of the 90's. I for one certainly would opt for a W124/240 or 250D series vehicles which offer better value for money and vintage value. Also, their maintenance is fairly lesser (wouldn't say cheaper) than the C & E Classes.

You can get these W series vehicles for around 4L at best in mint condition. Be sure to search, verify and then purchase. You will certainly have a good driving pleasure considering its build.

Re: Mercedes E-Class (W124) Used Value?

I am looking for a used W124 E220 in Bangalore. Anybody who acquired her recently? I searched in classifieds and found a couple of ones but none in Bangalore. The closest matches are in Chennai.

http://classifieds.team-bhp.com/buy-.../E-Class.html/

Are they really Merc alloys?

http://classifieds.team-bhp.com/buy-.../E-Class.html/

5L seems on the higher side, isn't it? Suspension, clutch and breaks recently overhauled. Would that justify the price then?

I also have couple of queries regarding the wheels and interior upholstery. Did the 1996 and later W124 E220 models used to come with alloys or steel rims? And what about the interior? Cloth fabric or leather seats?

Any comments?

The wheels on the black merc do not look like Merc alloys.

In india, the 124 came with Steel wheels and wheelcaps as standard. There were a couple of different design alloys which were a dealer option. The most common was the 8Hole 15", which resembled the old Tata sumo wheelcaps.

As standard, the indian cars came with black fabric interiors which looked as cheerful as a dungeon! Leather was an option at about 1L, and so was a Blaupunkt Cassette player with CD Changer and steering remote. IIrc, this used to cost about 1.25L!

These were pretty much the only options which were available in India, which was a bit of a disappointment considering the 124 was one of the most customizable cars abroad!

Need Mercedes Buying Advice

Hi
I am a post graduate student in Mauritius and have decided to purchase a car.
Out here, most of the 1998 onwards cars are pretty decently maintained and look shiny new.
I am getting a Toyota Corona, 1999 (done 210000 Kms) and a Mercedes E200 Diesel, 1998 model (done 140000 Kms) for the same price.

I intend to keep the car for about 3 years and drive about 10000 Kms annually.

However I am worried about the maintenance costs of the car.

Right now, the car is in a great condition and is coming with a full service history. The owner claims there are no repairs to be done.

Could someone please guide me?

Pictures of the car attached.

Thanks

Need Advice: 2nd hand Mercedes E200 Diesel German

Dear Mods, I am terribly sorry for posting this thread in the wrong section. I have limited access to the internet for the moment and need advice pretty urgently. So please place this thread in the right section / merge with an existing similar thread.
Thanks

Hi
I am a medical post graduate student in Mauritius and have decided to purchase a second hand car here.
Most of the cars out here are pretty well maintained, even those dating back to 1997 or 1998.
I am getting the option of buying a Toyota Corona, 1999 (done 210000 Kms) and a Mercedes E200 Diesel, 1998 model (done 140000 Kms) for the same price.

There's nothing wrong with either of these cars per se and both of them come with a full service record and are not accidental.

I intend to keep the car for about 3 years and drive about 10000 Kms annually.

Given an option, I would love to own the Mercedes because this model was launched when I was in my teenage years and I instantly fell in love with this shape.

However I am worried about the maintenance costs of the car. Being a student, I can afford the regular servicing costs.

So what do you guys suggest? Is the car worth taking a risk? I mean, is this particular model known to demand loads of cash in terms of servicing and maintenance costs?

I have also taken the opinion of a local mechanic who is known to me and he says that the car is in a good shape and he will take care of everything.

But I am still a bit apprehensive.

Any thoughts on this are welcome.

Pictures of the car attached.

Thanks
