hey dyslexokkk,
the 2003 200 CDI isn't and AMG variant. Most likely, it would have an AMG body kit.
Also, the 2003 mercs C Classes arent that reliable. The newer facelifted ones are way better in terms of reliability.

Thanks Lambo,

Yes you are correct its the AMG Kit.
It hits me hard and low when I hear that a merc is unreliable, I mean we pay so much just for reliabilty and safety. Looks like MB India is just (or atleast was) selling the 3 pointed star.

Thanks again for your reply.

Don't blame MB-India. The problem lies with MB-HQ. In the 90's to 00's. MB decided to concentrate on bottom line profits and started cost cutting on materials. This led to unreliability and tarnishing of the MB name.
Things are starting to get back to the old days since the launch of the current S-Class and models since then.

Hi,
I own both E250D and petrol version. Both are amazing on their front.
I drive 250D and we gifted 250 petrol to our dad last month.

I was in Mumbai last week and was about to meet Ameet Thakker re: a 1998 W210 E250 D. But he was not in town. Have spoken to him over phone several times and found him to be a no-nonsense man, well aware of the cars in his inventory. He is very open about the true condition of his cars, and refused to even show me the above Merc when I said that I wanted a trouble-free, mechanically sound car as my daily-driver.

Don't think you'll have any hassles closing a deal with him. He has a clean reputation at all top websites like carwale, carazoo and gaadi.com. Besides his own websites offer very clean cars.

Any particular model you are looking for?

Alright guys.

I would like to break the dream that all others have been living in on here.

I myself am the First Owner of the W124 E250 D.

The Sevice used to cost a Lakh of Rupees.

The Parts are Extremely Expensive.

The Insurance is also around a Lakh of Rupees(without No Claim Bonus). :(

Do you guys want to know anything more ?

btw Please do not listen to Fools advice of flying the car over Speed Breakers and Bumps as it damages the Suspension and Tyres. Please refrain from buying cars from such people. E Class is a Car not a SUV.

@supercars: Is not the Insurance based on the market value of the car? Or its expensive for the W124? Could you post a break up of service costs? Does this "one lakh" cost cover include merely regular service?
And mate you sure have a way of dashing the dreams. Lol

I have owned the car since 1997 so I am sure that they do not revalue your car for insurance.

The One Lakh Service is just the Normal Service like changing oils and stuff. They will clean your car and check for various faults.

You want to know service costs. It all depends what you include in your service.

Suspension job costed me a lot of money around 2 Lakhs. I will try and locate exact figure as I have the Bills and all but I have them stuffed somewhere so will take me time to locate them & write it down here.

Hi Supercars,

The Sevice used to cost a Lakh of Rupees.
This would be true if one got the car serviced at an Mercedes workshop. However, for a car such as this one, dealership maintenance is not required and more often, there are mechanics who are experts in taking car of a W124. This is my opinion alone, and others may freely disagree

The Parts are Extremely Expensive.
Again, if you buy your own parts and get them fitted/repaired using a trusted mechanic, this is not the case. Of course, this being a decade old merc, one has to bear in mind the fact the if some specialised part does go awry, it will set one back quite a bit. Happily though, this shouldn't happen too much in a W124.

The Insurance is also around a Lakh of Rupees(without No Claim Bonus). :(
Now, this is surprisingly high. This would mean that your insurance company is valuing the car at ridiculous prices (upwards of 35 Lakhs!). This year, I had my car (a W124 E220, 1996 make) insured by Bajaj Allianz for Rs 9800/-, for own damage and third party combined, valuing the car at 6 Lakhs. I suggest that you talk to your insurance agent and get your car revalued (I am sure that this is possible. If not, change your insurance company, since they don't even seem to be offering a NCB! (mine does!).

The One Lakh Service is just the Normal Service like changing oils and stuff. They will clean your car and check for various faults
This service costed me Rs 15k this year - Got it done by my mechanic, and he does a brilliant job (not hearsay this - I get this a lot from other W124 owners who frequent his place). As I said before, a Mercedes A.S.S does not make sense for a decade old W124. It does make sense for a new merc. Again, and I cannot say this enough, this is my own opinion.

Warm Regards
NG

I can imagine how happy you are with your new car. A good first buy. I have my heart set on a w124 too. This is one of my favorite cars. Again, happy car.

This car has the new rims, grill and clear lamps at the rear and front. This is one hell of a beauty. Sigh, one day, maybe.

BTW, can anyone let me know how much does it cost to fix power steering leakage? I believe that is a frequent problem with this model so I wanted to confirm if it is going to be a major repair bill to fix this.

You need to change all the seals of the power steering assembly by taking out the rack and changing all the seals which come in a single kit for Rs. 5000 (price is for W210's so a little cheaper for W124) its a one day job not costing more than 5 to 6k.
