Mercedes-AMG GLC 43

Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 vs Audi Q8 vs BMW X3 M40i vs Others-2024_mercedes_amg_glc43_exterior_01.jpg

What you'll like:

• A performance-oriented car that can also be your daily driver
• Coupe-SUV shape is quite the differentiating factor. Stands out from the regular crop of cars
• 416 BHP, 2.0L petrol provides exciting performance (0-100km/h in under 5 seconds)! 9-speed AMG Multi-Clutch transmission is lightning quick
• Excellent handling package – Mature suspension in comfort mode and tight in Sport+ mode
• Premium quality interiors, sporty seats, filled with technology
• Loaded with features like 15 speakers, 710W Burmester sound system, head-up display, transparent bonnet, active parking assist and more
• 5-star NCAP rating, top-notch safety kit & a suite of electronic aids to keep you safe

What you won't:

• Won’t be cheap. Typical CBU pricing
• Coupe roofline has its disadvantages – limited rearward visibility and less headroom for rear passengers
• 20-inch wheels or the optional 21-inch wheels have thin tyre sidewalls. Makes the ride stiff and you have to be careful on bad roads
• Some missing goodies such as cooled seats, Level 2 ADAS, full-size spare tyre (has a space saver tyre) etc.
• The back seat is more suitable for 2 healthy adults and a child. Not 3 healthy adults
• Heavier adults will find the front seats too snug

Its the BMW X3 xDrive M40i from this list for me. Its just the right combination of performance to price proposition for me. If they were priced much closer, I might have picked the GLC Coupe but at these prices there's no way I would cough up the additional cash over the X3 for the GLC coupe.

Voted for the Q8. It looks the part, it has a spacious cabin that is properly modern, it comes with proper V6 powertrains and the car is fairly sorted underneath. It’s a complete, no compromise all rounder. None of the reliability issues you get with the Range Rovers. I find the Macan overpriced and overrated especially with the small engine. I’ll be extremely wary of how Merc’s 2.0 ultra high tech AMG engine will take to Indian conditions and fuel if the car is actually used as more than a driveway ornament. As for the BMW, it’s a good car, but the X3 is far too ubiquitous to play in this segment. X5 over X3 M40i.

X5 hands down. Even though it's a car from higher segment it has better overall dynamics and comfort

Best of all worlds. Also, the X5 Xline costs more or less the same as other cars mentioned above.

Range Rover Velar, IMO, has very distinctive style and looks in the segment. For me, personally, its a head turner and makes its presence felt on the roads as compared to its competitors mentioned in the survey.

+1 Love the distinctive styling that's a stand out. Audi's cars can't be differentiated on first look and both BMW and Audi's offerings look like larger vehicles of their smaller siblings. Going by looks alone, I'd pick the Velar.

Re: Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 vs Audi Q8 vs BMW X3 M40i vs Others

Though I chose X3 M40i, i believe both X3 and X4 M40i ‘s are discontinued. Even the petrol Macan is discontinued.

Thus this territory will be ruled by GLC 43 AMG. Nothing can match the initial impression of a Mercedes. These latest Gen Mercedes have such an appeal that even a non car enthusiast finds a wow factor in them.

Audi Q8 has a muscular stand but interiors look like all the other Q cars, plus its a massive car not exactly sporty.

RR velar depends on the engine choice, 2L petrol engine is a joke in such a large SUV.

When you are plonking 1.5 Cr on fun SUV, GLC 43AMG is a no brainer. Yes it has just a 4 cylinder engine, but the exterior looks , interiors , Mercedes badge and entire new design is very desirable and will easily attract clientele in that price bracket. Family purpose choise will definitely be X5 or GLE.

EDIT:
To clarify, I limited my voting consideration to strictly the stated models. If it comes to putting actual money down in a purchase in this broad 1 - 1.3 cr range, I’d most likely pick up the petrol X5 myself (or maybe even the petrol GLE). But I think the thrust of this poll is the high performance sporty compact SUVs / SUV coupes which is why I refrained from citing options such as X5, GLE etc for this specific poll.

Re: Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 vs Audi Q8 vs BMW X3 M40i vs Others

The Q8 is such a weird inclusion in this list, that's a porky family hauler while the rest are fun-ish, crossovers. The Velar sits in no man's land.

1. The X5 should be included here and it'd be the obvious choice for most. Just involving enough to enjoy, truly practical in terms of space and features.

2. The Macan is the under rated choice here. Numbers won't do justice to how that "suv" behaves like a hatchback on the road. The steering is meaty, the body roll can be ignored, and the 2L while underpowered sounds super rowdy with a sports exhaust upgrade.

3. The price difference between the X3 and GLC make the X3 the obvious choice. Especially for the B58 engine. But...again, with an X5 available in that price bracket.
