AUDI A4 or BMW 320I Edit: Bought A4 2.0 TDi

Hi

Have been confused between the following choices.

Audi A4 1.8T vs BMW 320i ...OR... Audi 2.0 Diesel vs BMW 320d

Audi is giving me 2.5L discount whereas BMW is giving 1.0L off. The Beemer is a Dec 2007 production model, whereas the Audi is 2008.

Need to deciede within today or latest tommorow. There is another choice I have a 2001 BMW 320i in mint condition. Have yet to drive it though, what should the price on that one be ?? Asking is 18.5L

I would be greatful if informed suggestions on the above are made to help me deciede.

Thanks

I would choose the Audi A4 over the BMW 320d. Not that I have driven either or even sat in any but IMO the Audi has more appeal than the BMW for sure.

What a dilemna to have.

Audi does have the exclusivity factor going for it. If you can opt for the S-line , that would be absolute killer.

IMO, BMW's have started looking like they are made by Koreans!!

Happy purchasing. Good-luck

Any reason for not chosing the 325i instead? You have the Octavia for those long distance runs when you want to save money. Why not get the 325i which has more equipment than the 320d, is a bit faster and also a bit cheaper.

To add to the confusion, have you had a look at the new C class?

Are you planning on getting the 320i or the 320d?

I think 18.5L is on the higher side.

On your latest dilemma on a choice between A4 and BMW 320 , I would prefer 3 series coz its one car that has nil weakness according to many journos and more over be it interiors or exteriors , the quality of material is great.
By the way why dont you peek into the BENZ showroom and have a look at the latest C-Class. Am a BMW enthu but the latest C-class do look promising apart from its weird back(subjective).

Is it the NEW A4 that your are talking about? I doubt it would come on discount then, there is another thread started by GTO that the A4 was available in bombay for 22 Lakhs ! So you should bargain harder, for that price i'd recommend the A4 !
But if i were in your place i would wait for the new A4 (which will be a little more exp). If you are in a hurry then the 320d is the best package and since its on 1 lakh discount its even better.
Did you look at the new C-class at all? Suggest you test drive the C220 CDi.

P.S: Stay away from a used car if you can afford a new one, dont be tempted by a 7 year old model which is not even at a very attractive price!

Ricky, what you are being offered is the A4 which has been now discontinued. Its a really lacklustre sedan, which simply cant match the BMW for equipment level, handling or even after-sales. Plus, the resale will be far far lower. Also, it is a front wheel drive that really can't handle anywhere as well as its competitors. Do you really want to buy a car that is going to be replaced by the all new gen very soon?

Go for the 320D. It completely annihilates the 320i, and is a pretty spirited diesel. IMHO, its a lot better overall car for India than the 325.

The new C220 looks competent too. But I wouldn't recommend you touch a Mercedes for atleast 2 - 3 years after launch. Not unless you want to be a guinea pig in solving their electronic glitches.

Audi would be a good choice. The new A4, if you can wait would be a great choice.

Among the options listed, 320d would be the one I would choose otherwise the 325i. The 320i is not really that fun to drive.

The New A4 does not come to the dealers till the month of September '08. There is no dealer in Delhi / NCR offering the A4 @ 22L. If they were I'd have had it in the garage by now :-) The nerw A4 is coming with a 3.2Ltr engine (same as the TT) so it will be fairly more expensive, & honestly I do not think I need so much power. Have yet to drive the A4 2.0 tdi

As for the BMW it is a 2007 production model hence the discount.

Let's see, thanks for the inputs

Cheers

Rick, why not try to get a test drive in both cars so that you can decide for yourself rather than rely on others' opinion? WRT the 2001 BMW, 18.5 lakhs is utter lunacy. That car is seven years old, so it should be selling for more like 30% of it's original cost, IF THAT. I'd say it's not worth more than 10-12 lakhs MAX if it's in good condition.

If mumbai dealers can offer the A4 @ 22 OTR there is no reason why Delhi dealers cannot offer the same price if not more ! Let the dealer know of the discounts in Bombay, if he doesnt match it (which he should/can) it makes more sense to buy the car from Bombay and get it delivered or driven to your doorstep(which is a small cost).
