Well as Far as my knowledge goes

VW Touareg 3.0 V6 Tdi comes for 50 lakh almost ( on road )
The other options you might use include

Volvo XC90 : around 45 lakh
Mitsubishi Montero ( but i dont think its worth it)

Audi Q7 3.0 Tdi 55 lakh approx
Mercerdes ML 320cdi 56 lakh

Did not include the BMW X5 3.0D, because it is around 65 lakh

From all this , if i had to choose, i would anyday go for the Q7

in what way is it not worth.. the toureg happens to be a lot more expensive. the montero would be about 42l on road. the toureg would be in the region of 60l.

Frankly speaking if you wanna do real offroading, all of those bar the montero would fall into pieces.

The Q7 is no where at 55 lakhs for the Tdi. The 3.0 Tdi comes for anywhere close to 70 to 75 lakhs on road or maybe more now. The new Montero is worth a check. Its priced at around 36 lakhs and is the only proper off roader in the list above. The Prado is also available but then thats only a petrol.

IMO, Montero is the best SUV in that price range. Why do you think it isn't worth it.

I guess because it does not have the street cred or image as the other 2.

If no off roading is in the cards i would pick from the toureg and the q7.

He wont get a diesel in the Pardo here. He may however import the bigger Landcruiser with a diesel engine.

Montero is not worth the money you spent on it, if any one wants to know any idea of how it feels to drive around in a car worth 40 lakhs. just take a test drive of the Land Cruiser Prado. So what if it's petrol ? The diesel version was on sale at Chirayath Cars, Cochin a little while back. The price they Quoted was around 55 Lakh. With that kind of money you could proudly buy a Petrol Prado, Lower Downpayment. lower maintanence, maintanace available just around the corner at an A.S.S ( around 3500 bucks for a 10K service). with the leftover money refuel (ie for about 10 to 13 lakhs).

I felt like a i was driving a bullock cart when i drove the montero expected much more from a vehicle which costs nearly 40 lakhs , maybe it's because i had Driven The Mighty Land Cruiser Prado VX right before that, but buying a Toyota is just another investment, which depriciates very very slowly, spent thy money wisely.
