Congratulations! Great choice with the 520D. Just a thought : The 530D is out of budget, no doubt. Is there any chance the dealership has an old stock 525D that they'd let go for a discount?

I agree with your points on the Montero. The engine is noisy, and rear bench comfort is compromised. But still, a heck of an SUV!

What do u guys think, should i go for the Service Package? I am sure to keep this car for the next 5 years and would surely do more than 60,000 kms by then, so i gotta take the 1lk kms package priced at around Rs.2,50,000 - 2,70,000/-.
50 grand a year is a very reasonable amount to maintain a 5 series. I'd say go for the service package. Indirectly, you get a 5 year warranty too!

Congratulations. I look forward to a delivery report with pictures.

@ Autopsyche: Thanks for the feedback mate! will think about the hella's, but as Sahil said, will have to double check that it has those LED Lines.

@ Sahil, yes i am positive i got 17" wheels, coz i have the BMW 5 Series brochure right in front of me now - the new brochure with the 520d mentioned on it, and in the specs sheet it says - "Light Allow Wheels Star Spoke 243 with Runflat Tyres -7.5Jx17 225/50 R17"

@ GTO, just called him up now, and says no stock left for the 525d. but GTO, the 5 year 1lk kms Service pack is not a "extension of warranty" it is only a service package where all ur general service bills will be covered in it. no other items. suppose the ECU or some thing like that goes kaput after 2 years, then that will not be covered in the BSRP (BMW Service+Repairs Package)

Are you sure? I remember having a discussion with Sahil & KBK once. We did conclude that it is an indirect warranty extension too.

@ID

Do check with BMW about warranty, if you are changing your lights.

I had wanted to use 90/100 on my A4 & the workshop said it'd void warranty.

The only option they gave me was to take an AUDI HID kit which costed more than an escort car would ...so I opted for the escort car !!! LOL LOL

Coming back to the Angel eyes. I am inclined to agree with Arush on that. That is if at all you HAVE to change the OE ones. IMHO Go white or remain stock.

Cheers

Yes mate, called and checked with the dealer again, It is not an "extended warranty" only extended service support.

@ Ricky: thanks for the info. About the warranty, well only way to dodge it is, If anything happens and u have to claim warranty, replace the old oem bulbs and then go to them...
I had a similar thing happen with my Scorpio. I had used the 130/100 bulbs and the reflectors actually got a little damaged. So then i knew an insider in the workshop, first i showed it to him, then he told me to change them back to the 60/55 ones and then come and talk to the works manager for warranty replacement, and then i got it!

....And i qoute from the BSI+R broucher "EXTENSION of your statutory rights of repair for vehicle defects during the agreed term."

Like i said please pick up the broucher from your dealer as it clearly points out what is even excluded from the package such as damages to body and due to impure fuel etc.

And this package entitles you to service your car from any dealer in the world.

Hey Sahil,

After u said that, i called the dealer and asked him to send me some more material on the Service package, and he sent me some text material from BMW. In that i read that line about extension of the rights of repair till the agreed term.

But i still have some doubts on it. It specifically mentions the word "REPAIR", so what i understand from the writing is that i will have a right to get it repaired, but not "replaced" in case it is not repairable. I think the text is a big misleading. Maybe it does mean literally "extended warranty" but if u go by the wordings, there is some dillusion.

Anyway, i have decided to take up the 1lk km - 5 year package, if not much, atleast peace of mind that whatever the repairs be, its all taken care of.

Service Inclusive= Service+Repair Package.

"extension of the rights of repair till the agreed term" = Extension of Warranty.

Why do they call it BSI+R and not simply Extended Warranty?

Reason: BSI+R (as told) is more than Extended Warranty. When simplified, it means For the term 5 Years/100,000 Kms of BSI+R, I will get the wear parts (Lubes, Other Fluids, Filters, Wipers, Brake Pads, Brake Discs -> Service/Non warranty repairs) AND all other defects (Read warranty repairs) done on my car with no further charge. T&C apply.

Extended warranty on the other hand does not cover for service! & Free service as also offered by some manufacturers do not cover extended warranty! This looks like Best of Both Worlds.

Flip Side:

Oil topup not covered-peanuts. I have thrown a litre can in the boot (Just in case)

Washing not included: The dealer does give me a complimentary top wash. For complete detailing, I ought to pay. Reason: The dealer told me, if washing is included, they will end up with a queue of cars everyday for free washing/polishing. Sounds Valid Dr. Watson!

another upside of taking the package is that the dealers do a lot of stuff that doesnt need to be done, for free with your prior consent that is.

Dealerships get paid by bmw for work done under Bsi+r plan so they are always willing to do additional work...eitherways we benifit !

For instance i sent my car for a simple iDrive software update as i wanted the latest version. The dealer also topped up my oil for free.

If u complain about any problem they dont hesitate in replacing parts under warranty.

@ Sahil

You are right...the dealer can fix certain things in advance. Things that it anticipates to be cropping up. You do not need to even discuss/coax the dealer for such repairs.

The dealer will not repair/replace anything that do not need replacement. They fix only anticipated repairs (Mostly service related stuff like brakes/oils etc). For this, they use a gizmo called 'Key Reader'. You can see this blue thing resting on the advisor's desk. Gives a cute report with red and green cars indicating jobs to be done.
