Do you think it makes more sense to pick up a Montero at around 22-23 lakhs, 1 and half year old? We make quite a few trips to the hills so will push him to get that.

A used car is different than a Showroom TD Car.

Showroom TD Cars are ripped and used by various people. ( Thousands or more )

I'd suggest make him consider the passat or as you mentioned ,the montero (Depending on the condition)

Montero is a big NO..as i think that car does not have the looks which are required for a luxury segment SUV.

If it helps anyone, Audi has a test-drive 3.2 FSI for sale in Mumbai. Initial discount offer is in the range of 6 lakhs but I am sure this can be bargained further. It's a white car and has covered about 2,500 kms.

That is one helluva car, the only one with petrol injection. BTW what is the price of the car ON ROAD - just for information sake!

I guess what Headers meant is direct injection - FSI engines don't have spark plugs... fuel is injected using a common rail.

Believe me, high-revving the 3.2 FSI was an exhilarating experience. The engine sounds like a MONSTER over 4,000 rpm. A4 3.2 feels amongst the tightest (over the Beemer 325 too) and the cabin seems to wrap around you.....ergonomics are spot-on. Sport mode on Audi's drive select firms everything up and completely changes the DSG's characteristics. Even if you take your foot off the gas @ high rpms, it will hold the gear!! Awesome brakes too.

Downside : the 3.2 is imported as a CBU. Onroad price 49.6 lakhs Mumbai. The awesome drive select suspension package is a 2.5 lakhs option (above the 49.6L).

GTO, any idea what the prices are? Is it in the same ballpark as this one?

They still have plugs. The location of the injector is what is different.

Cheers
knowing that BMW or any high end cars are not extensively test driven everyday like the mass market cars, 8k seems high for a TD car, unless it is 2-3 years old.
it is possibl that somone at the dealer's side was using it as a personal vehicle.

Wouldn't be too difficult. 320d would retain its value better though. 320i is avoidable.

The A4 3.2FSI, as awesome a machine as it is, has terrible pricing. 50 lakhs could get you a 530D which is not only a substantially larger car, but will also beat it in most areas of performance. Ajmat insists that the 3.2 will depreciate like stink too. What say to a 2 year old 3.2 FSI for 20 lakhs

Is it a 320d Baseline or the Highline

The 320d Baseline does not come with iDrive & your friend can easily spot the difference. For a 320d baseline, the discount is too less. If it is the Highline version ie. with the iDrive, then I recommend that you go for it.

Regarding Maintenance costs, BMW has launched a 3 Years 90,000 Kms maintenance package ie. Service Inclusive Ultimate & is priced around 200 KINR. Recommend to club it along with the deal, ask the dealer to go down on the collective price since he has already used 8000 kms off the available 90,000 kms. The ripped aspect is then taken care.

IMO:
320d Baseline for 19,00,000 INR
320d Highline for 20,00,000 INR
320d Highline with BSI Ultimate 3Yrs/90,000 Kms for 21,50,000 INR

Exercise your judgement. And of course, the dealer touches up the dents and scratches for free. All the best.
