And has anyone with a beamer actually had any luck with hot dates ? :P

well the beamer will attract gals dont worry about it. and if you really want to get their attention put it in sports mode and floor the accelerator and just feel the pleasure of the engine sound and the gals waiting for you to stop and give them a ride in it and get to know you

Someone made a good suggestion : You might want to look out for used 325i's too. They depreciate like nobodys business (read = cheap). I have seen more 325i's than the 320i, so I presume it wont be too difficult to find one.

Aboutt the xenons getting misty, i haven't had any such problem. Maybe in the rains they might get a small patch of condensation at the bottom of the headlight's glass. But thats bound to happen even with normal bulbs and within a few minutes the mist disappears.

About headlamps getting misty

Brother, do not worry about this. It is a non-issue. The next time you visit the workshop, ask them to have a look at the headlamp as a spare part.

The Xenon headlamps come with two massive breathers on the extreme ends. Yes, the headlamps breathe. When the light is switched on, the air inside the headlamp assembly gets heated up and needs to expand...therefore the breathing vents otherwise the glass will crack.

In certain situations for example you happen to park your car in the closed garage or where it is humid enough, the hot air inside the headlamp contracts and thereby sucs in the moist air from outside. Since the lenses are the ones to get cooled down first...they get misty.

So, the next time your car has a 'cataract' do not worry. Just put on the headlamps for a while and things are cured.

Now, lets get back to the thread.

If your dealer won't help, your friends in Team BHP will help! Just let me know if it is convenient for you to pick a 3 Series from Bangalore/Mumbai & register in Chennai. Can try to find a car for you...3 Series... <25 lacs.

Well, good news!!!

We're buying a new 320d highline, but waiting for the '09 model to release.
The change was spurred by a VERY attractive finance package.

Does anyone know when exactly they might be launching the model?

Nitronium, why not stretch to the 520D then? It is less than the value of a Swift diesel away. Factor in resale and it may just work out cheaper!

As GTO suggests, try stretching to the 520d if possible.

This will be miles ahead in terms of comfort and handling.

Cheers !

Dipen,

I own a 530d and extensively drove the 320d, before I made my decision to buy the 530d recently.

Also, in terms of comfort the 5 series has a better ride than the 3 series.

If he can stretch his budget and get a 5 series, nothing like it.

Cheers !

A new 320d is as far as i can push it without being chucked out of the house by dad. But he's agreed to take a test drive, and that is fine by me, for i hope he sees what the all the ruckus is about for himself, and becomes a fan of the 5!!

After reading about the 520d,not having driven one before, i have a couple of queries.

1) The car is essentially a 320d's engine cocooned in the body of a 5 . The chassis being bigger, and the weight substantially more, doesn't that dilute the ability of the engine? ( I think someone else was asking the same)

2) What is it that actually justifies the 8 lacs extra? I'm sure the prestige of owning a 5 series is a major reason. But the 320d seems to offer everything the 520d does, and though i may be the only person in this forum to maintain this, i think it looks better than the 5, in the sense that it looks sporty, whilst the 5, elegant.

And a totally unrelated question, does anyone know whether BMW india will be launching the 325d (if there are any plans at all??)?

nitro- the 520d and 320d share the same engine. Likewise the 525d and 530d share the same engine. What brings out the difference is the ECU remap. The 520d hits 100km/hr in 8.5 seconds which is Quick!
I agree the 320d highline is almost as loaded as the 520d so a lot of what you pay for is the snob value. Which is the case in most cases. Take the C vs E, similar features and the C even has Bluetooth! Even on the interiors the E is not much bigger. Whereas in btwn the 3 and 5 the former is much more roamier. In addition the suspension setup on the 5 is more comfy than the 3.
I doubt the 325d will be launched as the price will be almost at par with the 520d and also it would perform as quick as the 530d so it's a conflict on interest on bmws part.
