Actually radar detectors are not illegal like akshay1234 said. I have seen them for sale in a lot of car stores in Delhi (dont buy them! they are usually the cheap Chinese stuff that give false alarms most of the time).

Order a good quality radar detector Online. Some good companies are:
Whistler, Cobra, Escort, Beltronics.

You can get a good radar detector online for about Rs. 8000 - Rs. 12000. Amazon.com usually ships to India and it should be good place to get a cheap price.

I have been successful in ordering a radar detector online. Get one shipped, you shouldn't have any problems.

Radar detector in India ! Its pretty unheard of, I have never come across anyone having one in Bombay atleast.
How well will it actually work here since most of the cops patrol on bikes.

I have one but rarely use it due to too many false alarms in our conditions.

Two of my friends have it here. We used to use it a couple of years back but dont do so anymore. The cops just dont get in the way seeing Monsters approaching at high speeds.

Radar detectors are usually helpful sometimes especially because they have speed traps now around town (delhi). I know of 3 speed traps on the delhi-noida expressway.

The radar detector gives u a heads up ahead of time letting u know about these traps.

Usually if you get caught speeding, the speed traps notify the cops that will stop either at the next traffic light or toll station (delhi-noida expressway). I have gotten 2 speeding tickets when I didnt have the radar detector.

Can you give details of cost, brand, shipping cost, size, specifications, installation procedure and web address?

Better still, post some pics as well.

@ Sahil. They usually stand on the phoenix flyover, marine drive and worli seaface townside with handheld radars. i usually see them too late and duck behind a truck or bus and avoid detection till i slow down. If you don't pull over if when the catch you and ask you to stop, then they follow on bikes.

UPDATE:

After many months of deliberation and waiting, we've picked up a 320d -Pre owned, for the following reasons

*immaculate conditon (barely a scratch)

*sound engine with 35K done on the odo

*detailed service history

Pics and review to follow soon enough

Immediate query though: Fuel. Regular or Premium diesel? I've heard standard diesel is recommended

Regular. BMW has been known to refuse warranty for defects they claim are caused by using premium diesels.

I haven't come across any manafacturer who proactively promotes premium fuel. Almost all of them vociferously recommend regular diesel
