C200K Vs 320I?

Most of the threads out here which i see usually Pit the 320D Vs the C220 CDi. The question is about the base models of both the Brands. The 320I with its 150 Horses, No I-drive and run flats. How ever BMW is giving a 0% interest scheme for this month. On the other hand the 200K is badly equipped too ( No retractable Mirrors, No memory seats etc. ) How ever i believe it to be more powerful as compared to the 320i.

So in the war of the 4 pot petrol heads, Who wins?

Bimmer anyday! Have driven my friend's new C and the steering has no response when compared to the BMW.
In fact my friend had the old C as well and his opinion was that it was a better car than the new one.

Well Redeff,
First of all here are a few things to consider:
1. Comfort C class, driving pleasure 3(but the c isn't too far behind)
2. What kind of driving are you gonna be doing? For city driving the light steering of the C is perfect and the 3 will be a pain.
3. 3series is going to have a shell change in 2010 i think while C has the brand new shell which will not change for 7years albeit a facelift.
4. 3 is more loaded with features as compared to the C. Also I called the BMW dealership in Mahtura Road delhi and was informed that there is a Rs 2lakh discount on this year's models for the 3.
5. If you don't care about ride quality,resale and the fact that the 3 will get a new face in a year or 2 then go for the 3.
Enjoy

Also don't forget that the bimmer has extended warrantee and free service which the merc doesn't offer. I think that is a big point in favor of the BMW.

Even the in-dash screen in the merc is the smallest with hardly any functionality.

The C is definitely the allrounder in the segment. Plus, it comes with a 6 speed manual which is the deal maker to me. It may not have the outright handling prowess of the 3 but is 90% there. How many of us are drivers good enough and get roads empty / safe enough to explore that limit? In addition, the C is more comfortable : better ride & back seat.

If brand new, I'd take the C. If I was keen on the 3 series, I'd just opt in on a used 325i. Used 325's going in the region of 18 lakhs! Killer depreciation, I know. Blame it on the 5 kpl city average and bone jarring ride.

Redeff thats not a bad deal at all mate.If you dont bother about resale and FE then go for the 26lakh one as I think it is still saving you about 8-10lakhs
That's a huge saving for a 1year old car.What's the mileage on the car?
Cheers

How do the C200k and the BMW 320i compare wrt cost of ownership, availability of spares and such parameters?

My boss is evaluating the two and these are some of the parameters he is unaware of.
Other parameters like ride quality, performance are discussed here so won't get too much into that.

The car would be self-driven mostly in the city and occasional highway jaunts.

Any pointers for this would be highly appreciated.

Cost of ownership is totally in favour of BMW. One reason : Their 5 year ownership packages.

Mercedes has a bigger brand value in India. So, for branding C200K.

But, BMWs are driver focused. So, if you were to drive yourself, go for 320I.

Look, BMW and Merc, are two different cars.
BMW= German Drivers Car
Mercedes= German Comfort Car
They are both luxury cars, but each one has its own niche. Although the BMW is underpowered (not too sure about that) the driving dynamics are on a different level then Merc.
Merc has traditionally been a luxury, comfort car so if you u wanna sit back and relax MERC IS THE ONE.

For me, BMW and Merc (being a BMW FAN), for Indian roads go with Merc, the driving dynamics do not matter, since Driving around in India isnt driving on the autobahn, so Merc.

I dont know about you, but IMHO buying either of the so called base models of these Germans is just not right! No performance, no equipment.

Ya, a used 325 sounds much better to me !

IT has o be the C any day.

It is face lifted recently & IMO is the car to go.

The new C is NOT a facelift model, it is an entirely new car / generation!
