Team-BHP Support ![]() | ![]() re- the 202 If petrol - beware the ECU is prone to failure after 10 yrs If diesel - check glow plugs - they fail after 3 yrs / 70k km - may be less in our condtions. Check for chuffing noises and paraffin like smells - means injector seals blown Rust on rear arches also check front suspention control arms. Made of stamped layered sheets instead of forged unit hence prone to rust Kick down problems on an auto could be faulty air mass sensor |

Senior - BHPian ![]() | ![]() As Ajmat rightly said Merc quality went to dogs round about the 1995-96 period. so buying an earlier model would be better. But prices seem to be still very high. BTW I always thought that Merc engines were reputed to run a million miles before overhauling and that was one of the primary reasons for them being so reputed in Africa |

BHPian ![]() | ![]() Thanks Ajmat, Mile Cruncher & Hillram, Will take all your advise and drop this 126 out of my radar. I kind of agree that the quality did go down post 96. My concern is I picked a 124 and now want a smaller car for easier city usage. An auto for daily traffic in blr. If the 202 is not recommended then what do I pick up? Any suggestions ? And any directions to start looking at? |

BHPian ![]() | ![]() Hi Phantom Lord, I saw that one but the economics does not work bringing into Bangalore and registration etc.. Do you reckon that the 201 platform was better built than the 202? |

| ![]() W201 is definitely sturdier and cheaper to maintain compared to W202, but it all depends on the condition of the car you end up buying. Read up more about it here Mercedes-Benz W201 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, it too has huge fan following. There is petrol version 190 E, I have seen 190 E 2.5 with Bangalore number, not sure if its for sale, it had KA-03 plate. Since these cars are rare in India, if you find a good one negotiate to cut down on economics needed to get the car registered in Bangalore. Last edited by PhantomLord : 9th February 2010 at 13:55. |

Senior - BHPian ![]() | ![]() The mumbai 190d needs repaint and interior refurbish, paint may be done with a reseaonable budget but interior some of those bits will make you cry sourcing them, not to mention crazy prices and 3X duty on importing 2nd hand parts even if you source the interior form overseas!! |

BHPian ![]() | ![]() I guess I am better of hunting in Bangalore. Also its easier to to do two -three test drives in case you just dont feel right the first time. FLying down to buy a car is a little tough! How many 201's & 202's are in India? Any idea? Anyone else own a 202 on this forum? |

Team-BHP Support ![]() | ![]() I used a w202 back to back against a w201. With the exception of space, boot access and lack of gadgets, the 190E was more superior. shall we say, my uncle who downsized from w124 to the 190e and then blindly went for a C180, found no charm to stick to a merc and went for a BMW 316. I must add, he got peanuts for the w202 which gave no trouble and had low miles. |

BHPian ![]() | ![]() Okay so finally someone who has owned a 202 on this forum. So you reckon I go for 201 if I get one rather than a 202? At times I still think of the SEL knowing well its too big to use everyday but the battle between my heart & the head continues. I think I should listen to my head and get a small merc now that I have picked up a 124? Right? |

Senior - BHPian ![]() | ![]() Seems like a neat rebuild not sure why owner put w210/w124 alloys?! Is it a 200D with column shift? Look out for accident/frame repair - straigtened a lot of them were either totalled or subframe has been completely rebuilt with local sheet metal ( good experienced skilled tinman = strainght car) hood is either warped or not shut right?! Some more details will help us give you our opinion of the price. What have you been quoted? |

Senior - BHPian ![]() | ![]() The car looks clean from pics. What series is it? Is it a W114 or a W115 and these W210 (E220cdi/E240) alloys look sick!! |
