W124 is a better bet than the W210, from all angles, the W124 today still is a timeless design, while the W210 has aged faster, also W124 is from a time when M overdesigned without cost considerations, while w210 is from the first batch when they built to a cost.

Many of the E's of that time came without leather, you can add good fresh leather for about 40k and get a bright car, add, about 20k for fresh paint and the cars as good as new, so a car with about 100K on board would be a good bet, lesser millage cars are likely to have tampered meters.

Thanks for the advice. Appreciate it, if I go for a E 250D, it will be the W 124 or none. I personally have no "need" to buy it. It is just that feel like aquiring a piece of automotive history which can be driven around.

@cannonball

If you are that keen on the W210, I can PM you the dealer's phone number. Says it is gennuine 42-43k kms & in super mint condition.

Cheers

What are the major differences between pre and post facelift W210s.

They look kinda similar from far away, but up close looks like every outer panel has been changed.

They are as follows:

- Front bonnet & fender more tappered down so the headlight sit sighthly lower on the post 2000 models.
- Door mirrors different design with indicators integrated
- side ftont fenders don't have indicators.
- rear tail lamp are different design.
-Engines are CDI and larger petrol
-f/r bumpers redesigned with f bumper having diff fogs
- suspension height raised by putting spacers
- tritronic gearbox
-steering with intigrated volume/info controls
-speedometer unit has larger lcd display to give more onboard info
- cernter stop lamp inside rear windshield is LED style
- Alloy wheels upsized to 16 from 15 with slightly diff design
- Music system different with better speakers
- interiro wood work different pattern

Last but not the least earlier cars were in classic trim therefore chrome not there on side door & bumper cladding and in the new one they launched it with elegance trim with the chrome. As you rightly said the difference is not detected/noticable to most. but the CDI are faster to accelerate and ride slightly stiffer

MB claimed there were some 2000 changes in this model over previous the ones above pretty much cover this. The rest suspension body/braking/esp/abs and they way they ride is pretty much ditto. Although the older ones ride lower therefore more stable and less bumppy ride

Wow, you really do seem to know your Mercs !!! 2000 changes in the car ?? They probably had 58 different new designs of the screws & the threading on them must be different. Just kidding. But seriously that seems like a tall order.

Cheers

I think if you look at the list that is it. The rest as you rightly said would be either several multiples of new parts inside the stuff on the list above Thx for your compliment

190D is w201 is this the silver car you posted a while ago?

Anyway no A/c (you will also need to put a fan blower

I am assuming she is a 1.9 liter diesel (I think this is the smallest the came with) I would say Rs. 2L if it is immaculate, if she is 2liter then Rs.2.5L, these prices becasue she is LHD and a generic sedan

Another surprise sprung upon me today. Single owner E230 W123 in MINTEST OF MINT condition, price not negotiable 3L, I think it is a 1983. But then I thought parts would be relatively difficult vs W124 E250D.

The confusion starts all over again !!

What say gentlemen ??

What's reasonable to pay for a "good" 1st owner, 71K driven, '00 make, W210 E220 CDI in Bangalore?
