Used BMW X5 - Where to source?

Hi,

I am looking to buy a used X5 for around 20L. does anyone here know of any cars for sale in any of the metro's (preferably in Chennai or Bangalore though)?

alternatively, can you send me contact details of dealers, and I could check with them myself?

Thanks.

there is a chap here in bangalore - he operates near cubbon park out of a large petrol pump (disused) since he is full time into cars/jeeps/suv's - all imported vehicles. he has some deadly looking pajeros, nissans, monteros and even a range rover etc.
you could check him out

None of those cars move on. Papers are questionable. What he does is he "leases" them out. You pay him a wad, drive it for a while and give it back

Some interesting pricing here for a 2nd hand X5! All the best on your search. I have a friend in Chennai who was looking to buy a 2nd hand E class. Will get some dealer info from him.

This thing retails for 60L + right?

O.T. Also some interesting info on the Cubbon park Petrol Bunk guy. Recently saw a H2 hummer as well parked there with some big momma rims.

Why don't you check out Magus Cars? They appear to have the infrastructure in place to import / support high end cars. I don't know anyone personally who has dealt with them, but have heard some talking about them.

Also, for a limited volumes X5, I wouldn't overtly stress on location (i.e. Bangalore / Chennai). The paperwork & condition of the car is more important than its state of registration. Even if you find a good car in say, MH, evaluate anyways.

hi all. i have dropped this idea. thanks a ton for your help.

just for info - i have found a couple of 2002 & 2004 X5's for between 25 to 28 Lakhs asking price.

carwale.com was a good starting point. a couple of the delhi & mumbai dealers put up their stocks on this site. another place to ask is the BMW dealer in your city and other citis too.

One thing to note if you were looking at X5 diesels are that the turbo's are fragile

Re: Used BMW X5 - Where to source?

Gentlemen;

Could someone please throw some light on what would be the pro's and con's of buying a used BMW X5 2001-2004 in Mumbai, India. My mechanic has managed to source a 2003 X5, just need to know what would be the things to look at before closing deal?

The reason I prefer this SUV over M-Class or other car is that there is not much difference in looks over an X5 from 2002 and X5 2012. I mean ofcourse they would be 2 worlds apart but I refer to the overall face look, shape of the tail lights etc.

Many thanks in advance!

Cheers.

Re: Used BMW X5 - Where to source?

At that age, be careful. If diesel, turbo's could be on last legs. The mass air flow meter if changed requires reprogramming and the inlet swirl flaps are fragile. If they break and get sucked into engine - Boom. They can be removed but you fuel economy might drop slightly.

The automatic transmission is sealed and cannot be repaired and will need to be replaced. Normally good for 200k km

If it is a V8, it will be more reliable at that age except for the transmission as mentioned above

I wouldn't buy it. It was the first generation, and not known to be too reliable.

+ there is a massive difference between an 02 and a 12 X5, no comparison.

I assume the one your mechanic has found is a 3.0 diesel. I think the engine and tranny would be pretty reliable, but be prepared for small electronic niggles.
