2011 X5 3.0 vs F10 530D

Super confused between the two. Need another car as my brother is moving. We already have a 09 530D highline and looking for another car. I want to pick up the x5 as it is somewhat different but the new 530D is just way too awesome and luxurious over x5 which costs around 10 lacs more.

What do you guys recommend ?

Other contenders which didnt make the cut :
Q7 - Too common
Porsche Cayenne Diesel - Waiting period
Jaguar XF - pricey
ML - Not so great features, new version due soon.
Tourag - Not much bling
A6 - New model due soon.
A4 3.0 TDi - Not available :(

The way I see it you should get the X5, reason being you already have the E60 530D and the SUV could add to some comfort during the times when the weather isn't so good etc.

About your options esp. the XF soon will be available in diesel which should make the car cheaper close to the X5's pricing I guess?

Keeping things simple I would stick with the X5 if the plan is to keep the E60 530D.

Get the X5, I think it probably will be available at a good discount too. The facelift version isn't much different so try and get hold of the pre-facelift for a steal.

^^ Ditto. The X5 seems the better choice.
An x5 & 5 are always better than 2 5s. More variety too

I might be adding to your confusion but I think Q7 is better product and drive than X5, it doesnt matter how many are around, you need to enjoy the comfort of yours. But that is just me.

Happy hunting. Cheers!

Could you tell me what is the lead time to procure Cayenne? I think the new one it now available in India. I am saving for mine

I think the Jaguar XF diesel which will be launched soon will be a good choice. It will be in the 50l range, and will probably be a good change?

Its worth the wait bro, the diesel rocks in Porsche as well, it just a bit more thirsty owing to a larger mill. I assume you never going to take the same for real off-road adventure thus Q7 suffice.

Jaguars are nice but till Tata clears how these cars will be taken care of and then people will trust them with their hard earned moolah.

Dont you think the Q7 4.2tdi makes much more sense than the 3.0 Cayenne? I mean the Q7 is more powerful, a lot quicker and just a couple lacs more than the Porsche.

You stopped for another a well maintained M3 eh?
Considering you don't mind a low miles pre-owned vehicles why not go a segment higher and look for a 7er or a Range Rover?

Spiff

I'd like to go against the tide here. If you are considering options like the Q7 and the Cayenne diesel. I would strongly recommend you to take a look at the Mercedes GL350 CDI. Its huge, seating for seven, lots of space. The 3 level suspension in insane. At the highest setting the bonnet level rises above my shoulder(you know how tall or short I am).

Unlike the waiting period for the Cayenne, the GL is readily available. Please do take a look before you decide.

Used car not an option since I will be going for financing. :(

@Dippy - I did consider GL350CDI but there is something about new benz interiors which feel very cheap to me.

When you already have a BMW, buying another brand should be a better idea.

In SUV's, I think Q7 is a better proposition. For Cayenne, customers pay more for the brand name. You may also consider Range Rover /Land Rover vehicles of the same category.

If you want to buy a saloon, it will be best to wait till the Jaguar XF Diesel is launched. Evaluate that against the 530D and then decide. You can also read my XF Initial ownership review to know why I selected Jaguar XF 3.0 S over 535D.

Servicing of JLR vehicles in Bombay should not be an issue as the sales & service is handled by Tata's directly.

Any idea when XF Diesel is coming ? I want to pick up a car within 10-15 days.

I for somereason think the XF isn't as bling as BMW . XF front is little dull and looks like a volvo...lol but the rear is to die for.

What about the current gen a8 ? There is a brand new a8 for a good discount going which would make it under 60lac category and my budget

I would also recommend to go for something other than BMW. It should add more variety to your garage!

Like you said, Q7 is too common. What about having 2 BMWs in the garage? I guess that will become common for your garage too :P

Do look into the XF and the Cayanne, Q7
