The damage is caused by spillage of Ambi pur. It is not due to the Fumes coming out of the bottle.

If the bottle is made to be tightly held, the damage can be avoided.

Some people are simply frightening others by telling "If it damages the dashboard, imagine what it does to our lungs?".

The damage to the dashboard is caused by spillage over the latter. Hence the damage to our lungs will happen if it is spilled into our lungs.

EDIT: I have searched on google "Does Ambipur cause damage to our Lungs?". But I did not find any relevant results. Only "The dashboard damaged by spillage" were found.

Got both my Honda and the sierra dashboard damaged as the moron who cleaned the car removed and fixed the perfume upside down, it might sound stupid. but it isn't when you see the white stain on a black dashboard stain which will never go away.

Ambipur damaged my dashboard when it got spilled on the head unit. I tried to wipe off the spill and in turn it removed the plastic coating which was stuck on the dashboard of my car.Will post the pics some day.

Yes, I saw that episode. But that process is for real vaneer. The NHC 'vaneer' is all plastic. The only way I know of is to replace the panel.

Here is a suggestion to all: since most of us drive with the windows rolled up and A/C in recirc mode, it is a good practice to ventilate the car for a few minutes each day. I do this by opening all 4 doors and the hatch for about 2 mins once each day before I set off in the morning and have never felt any need for a perfume of any sort

By comparison, when I did not follow this practice, the car used to smell awful. Even when I sprayed perfume I could distinguish the bad smell and the perfume separately (!) so perfumes were never the right solution for me

I used to use Ambipur in my Fiesta earlier. The solution leaked and went into the stereo system and damaged it completely. The problem with Ambipur is it leaks and does not get fixed properly. I had to spend another 10K for replacement with new system.

After this episode, i have never used Ambipur.

I had been using Ambipure (Aqua) for the past 3.5 years and had spills more than once. I had used both the older and the newer versions but luckily nothing happened to the cars plastic parts until now.

Now after hearing so many of you had issues wth Ambipure I am not sure I will buy again!

While we have been discussing the damage to the car plastics, does it have any effects on health ?

I'd used Ambipur in my Palio and my brother's verna some 5-6 years ago for around 3 months. I observed that me, my kid and my wife had stuffy nose all the time for which we did not find any root cause. Finally I took out the Ambipur bottle while getting the car serviced but never fixed it again. The stuffy nose problem got resolved automatically !!!

Same was the case with my brother and his kiddo !!

Since then we have stopped using any perfumes in the car ...

Frankly,why does one need any fragrance in a closed space like a car at all?
May not be easy to establish conclusively that it does harm, but if can avoid inhaling one more chemical fume, IMHO it should be avoided.
If a car is kept clean & the carpets kept dry & aired off & on, there would be no need to supress bad smells by artificial means.

Yesterday I met an expert electronics engineer who specialises in service/repairs of electronic equipment for automobiles. He had helped fix an issue with my old kenwood system several years ago so I took a friend along to his shop since he had a problem with his Kenwood car stereo's head unit. During a casual conversation about common problems in car stereos he asked me if & what perfume I use in my car. I mentioned I use the Pennzoil car freshners with flower/leaf fragrances and asked him why he was asking this. He immediately went inside his workshop and brought out a few car stereo / dashboard panels and showed me the plastic broken and melted in several places. He said after several experiences over the last 3-4 years they found that this was caused by Ambipur perfumes fixed on the AC vents !
I was very skeptical but today when I googled 'Ambipur plastic damage' I found several sites mentioning this. The engineer also said think about what that thing can do to your lungs if it can do this to plastic. Now I'm more convinced so wanted to share and get your views on this subject.

From my personal experience,I can say ambipur is extremely harmful for dashboard plastics.It has literally cracked my dashboard plastics in Indica.Not fitted properely while washing and got spill over leaving permanent scar over night.
Fortunately my VCD player was saved.

I also feel that if you inhale it when AC is on for more than 2-3 hrs,it is not good.But not sure.Not want to target just when I am not sure but my friend says so.

I remember ambipur had damaged the plastic in the dashboard of my Indica some years back. In my NHC, it has eaten through the coin box plastic, similar to the posts earlier. There is a yellow patch amongst the veneer coloured top of the coin box ahead of the gearstick.
Have since removed ambipur. The damage is not worth it. I am planning to try My shaldan.

I had the same issue in my Palio and till now was blaming FIAT for the plastic quality. Now, i feel it seems pretty common and people even ended up damaging the HU. Anyway, I have stopped using it.

Any alternatives?

My friend suggested Camphor and it works well not as good any perfume but quite acceptable to keep bad smell at bay.

Quite Shocking! I have been using Ambipur for 2 years now, Yes the new bottle tends to slip off on rough riding and its annoying but have had no other probs.

Im wondering.. what action can be taken on the company that manufactures these products? Will no one be held accountable for this? Who cleares/allows such products to enter into the market? Any answers?

I would say use in car bottles or solid slabs or even small hanging units. The former are the cheapest but last only for a fortnight or so (some have multiple 'ampoules' which you puncture one at a time to get a few months.
