Can you hear your FFE pop ?

All you guys with FFEs - how many of you can actually hear the distinct popping during downshift, on the overrun , or simply coasting down an incline ?
I'm not talking ALS here; just good old fashioned true FFE.

Nope not specific to carbs, but to modern MPFIs with an ECU.

Re: Can you hear your FFE pop ?

I had fitted Auto LPG on the Zen( 2001,16V mpfi) between 2007 to 2008 and drove close to 40000 kms. This sound was very prominent on LPG when downshifting or when letting go the accelerator above 3000 rpm.

And yeah ,I always say I have an Automech music system

Thats more like it
Do you have a cat con ?
If you like the sound try and remove your catcon and put a straight through and enjoy your music system..

Re: Can you hear your FFE pop ?

No I dont have the cat con ,but its not a straight pipe .I have a stainless steel end can which replaced the mild steel muffler after around 1.5 L kms.

And yes ,the sound after 3k rpm is music

Re: Can you hear your FFE pop ?

I could hear this POP very loudly in my OHC when it had only headers and a straight pipe no CAT CON or muffler. Music to your ears truly. And a bit of tunning on the MAP I could make it sound as loud as those Enfield pops

1] That thread deals with it like if its an "issue".
This thread is in context being part of the "fun" of having an unrestrictive exhaust with low back pressure..its acceptable to have some pop sounds.
Low back pressure is going to help the intake/exhaust valve overlap to allow more unburnt fuel to reach the hot exhaust.
Higher exhaust velocity due to not having a catcon also helps this.

2] The other thread is like a query for dealing with an issue specific to your carb maruti.
In this context of "sound = fun" this current thead has a poll asking how many people exist having this kind of "amount of fuel in the exhaust" with their setups.

I feel these are 2 different threads.

Now we are talking!!
Get a video clip for us when you do it again.

I'm running a straight pipe + near straight through muffler on my mpfi 4 valve Maruti 800 daily driver and its addictive fun on downhills.

Re: Can you hear your FFE pop ?

I can definately hear the exhaust pop on both my cars on the overrun. It turns heads! Freeflow in one & catless with Magnaflow on the other. As you advance ignition timing, the frequency (though not intensity) of the pops reduce.

Re: Can you hear your FFE pop ?

Chetan, you mean popping due to the fuel after-burn? But of course! I've been hearing it on the Civic since the day I got the Automech exhaust installed. Makes deceleration fun . BTW, you'll be surprised to know how often this popping sound is misdiagnosed as backfire.

Re: Can you hear your FFE pop ?

Ahh yes. Try a full red line in second gear when you are coming down a flyover and then then let it coast till the revs drop. BTW, this is actually unburnt octane.
