Vinyl and Art Leather

I was searching the net for door pad wrapping and found that many international forums says to use Vinyl to give a textured look.By 'wrapping in Vinyl' do they mean to use art leather. For eg: I saw some sites mentioning to wrap sub enclosures in vinyl rather than painting or carpeting.
To my understanding vinyl in our context refers to PVC flooring material and sticker jobs done on vehicles.
Basically is the Vinyl (used to cover sub enclosures) and art leather (Available here) are the one and the same ? Or is this some thing called the rexine ?
