No think about the airflow over the bonnet. The door hinge panel gap is just on the sides. The effect on FE may not be noticeable, only observations will tell.

Amar, thats one amazing looking Figo man! Kudos to your friend for doing this.
Just a suggestion, why not get the top of the car done in the same fashion. See how that would look and then go for it.

A friend (and yet to be BHPian) has got it done on his Punto. Shall share the pic for illustration purpose, if need be.

Would your friend do this on a professional basis? I could get something like this done on my Swift.

As I said, the carbon fibre look is just printed on the vinyl and texture of crests and troughs though can be felt is not very deep.

It is possibly outside your awareness that microgrooves can affect aerodynamics. Its not important though.

Cheers

Microgrooves in the right direction and quantity can actually minimize drag. E.g. Swim suits.

The effect on fuel economy should be minimal as the coefficient of drag is minimal at speeds we do on everyday basis. If everyone was so concerned about drag they would mend their bumps and scrapes there and then.

Well it is quite a common mod these days actually. The application of such hood vinyls is best done using one large layer and then to work that layer of all the creases using a hot air gun.

It is quite easy to do it as a DIY also, with some practice obviously and with the help of one more person. (Other person to basically help in the placement)

As for the CF vinyls, have seen ebay india website flooded with it.

Re: PICS : Carbon fibre (vinyl sticker) bonnet for the Ford Figo and Wagon R

A fantastic job done there. Looks very nice and OEM on the Figo. I was wondering, In the case of the Wagon-R, how was the hole for the water spray jet made?
Was the spray jet removed and the film stuck and then the jet placed there or was the film pasted with a crude hole made for the water spray jet ?
The first method would give a good look but the second one would be calling for problems, during rains, drops of water would stagnate there and rust that specific spot alone. I may be wrong here, Please highlight on this.

In both cases (Figo and Wagon R), water jets were first removed before the vinyl was pasted. The vinyl covering the water jet cavity was then cut carefully.

It is always good to remove the jet and apply the stickers, as you said during wash and raining season there are chances for water to seep in and spoil the entire work.

Re: PICS : Carbon fibre (vinyl sticker) bonnet for the Ford Figo and Wagon R

Hi Guys,

Check out my OHC with a Carbon Fiber sticker on the hood.
It was done a couple of years back. Apologies for the not so good pics.

Got it done through my friend in bangy. Involved a lot of work though.

Cheers,
Ayyappan

I just wrapped my i20's front license plate frame with a CF vinyl!

It has a real looking textured carbon fiber weave pattern!

I'll do my rear license plate frame next!

Check out the pics -

Close up

Note that the vinyl appears shiny as I dressed it with a protectant, that way it reflects light better and the weave is more apparent from a distance!

CF vinyl also comes in a glossy finish - DECALFX.com! CARBON2™ VINYL! Realistic Carbon Fiber Look! Low cost, high quality vinyl film overlay sheets! For hoods, custom interior dash trim moulding! 3M Di-Noc Dinoc wrap

btw I used 303 aerospace protectant on it!

Apologies as i do not clear shots of my babe. Need to get her a good photo session. Will do it some day and update you on the same. 2 more final pics which i could find. But again they were shot in the basement and hence not really good. These pics were shot ages back when i just had plans to get started with modding the car.

The hood has got a few layers of clear coat which gets the glossy finish
and enhances the shine and makes it look like new after a wash.

Cheers,
Ayyappan
