Security : Gear lock, steering lock

Hi Guys,

Please give you suggestions about adding more security to my baleno vxi, so my car already has maruti-nippon security system, but i heard that theives easily break into this.

I heard a few items like 'gear lock' , 'steering lock'. But i have very little knowledge about these.

And also mention where can i get these in bangalore...

Experts help please.....

Gear lock will deter the theives from stealing ur car ... get a "PIN TYPE" gear lock as its not obtrusive and is out of sight with just a small insert near the gear lever. The other type is the "U-TYPE" its fugly and reminds me of harisson locks lol

anyways....

To deter theives from getting away with ur accessories try fitting in a Shock sensor module to ur Keyless entry system i dunno whether NIPPON has a shock sensor mod. Shock sensor will activate the alarm if it feels the "shock" someone touching the car roughly or metal to metal contact... of push or parking scrapes etc. Another thing u can try is the Ultra-sonic module... in this module a few sensors are put inside the cabin once the alarm is activate anything that moves inside and the BUZZZZZER goes off... Plus there are a few anti theft systems that are not dependant on car battery now thats something u would want too.. so lotsa options here its best if u Enquire with ur local dealer to find out more.

invest in a good anti theft system if u have good ICE.

Gearlock : Rs 1000 and below
Steering lock : Rs 500 and below
Shock Sensor : Rs 2000-2500 (brand dependant)
Power windows mod : Rs 1200
Ultra sonic : Rs 3000-4000 (Brand dependant kit)

Want to put a gear lock on my car, any suggestions on good brands to use.
Have read that holes need to be drilled onto the car's body for installation. So, its got to be a brand who has their own instalation people.
Also, will such drilling void my Hyundai warranty?
Would also appreciate suggestions / comparisons between the U-Type & Pin Type locks. Which is more secure / tougher to cut..

Xenos is one of the places you can get a gear lock from. 8th Cross, Wilson gardens.

Their setup consists of a base unit that is fixed to the floor, near the gear lever. The locking part goes around the gear level and into the base unit. Something like with a front wheel lock on a bike. This is the U-type. Sorry, but havent asked the cost.

NIPPON does have the shock sensor option but the thing is that is has to be activated as the factory setting by default for that is "off". I have that enabled in my Esteem and it also gives me the option to increase/decrease the sensitivity.

Xenos, Autocop, Silicon and RD all have gear locks, suited to different cars. I have a Hyundai Getz and they say a PIN TYPE gear lock fits in it. Cost is around 1800-1900 along with installation

Re: Security : Gear lock, steering lock

I have an Ikon, and have been considering add-on security features, similar to the ones mentioned in posts above.
But I don't quiet understand how a gear lock can prevent theft - all it does is prevents the thief from changing to a forward gear. Well can't he rob your car and drive it in the reverse gear till his hide out, or a safe location where he can then brake the lock at ease? Besides it's always there near the gear lever, obstructing movement, or at least makes it congested.
Maybe the steering lock makes more sense, what say?
