Re: PICS : Tastefully Modified Cars in India

I so badly want an Octavia Combi!!! :'(

Even an L&K would do. I'll fit an RS kit on it and be happy!

Re: PICS : Tastefully Modified Cars in India

^^ Agreed.

There's a certain charm attached to station-wagons that go like stink. I totally get why they're loved in Euro-Markets. You're making no bones about wanting a usable fast car and that's very appealing! You can do 0-60 in quick time, with family, luggage and dog-in-tow!

This one with BBS wheels and the Thule roof-rack looks the business! Love it!

Spot on as usual old chap! How lovely those Octy, Merc E Class, Audi A4/6, Volvo V40 and Beemer 5 Station wagons look! Delicious. Great performers too.
Finding an old Octy Combi in India which is kept in good nick and offered for sale is quite hard. The owners of such vehicles are usually enthusiasts and reasonably well heeled with more than one vehicle, so they don't mind just hanging on to their cars for a while. I see one maroon one in Bangalore now and then on the inner ring road and one more black one around HSR layout. A year and a half back I saw a beige one in a dealer shop in BSK 3 stage and it was going for about 6.5 to 7 lacs. Expensive ish but it was in excellent nick indeed.

Shankar, it's a pity that station-wagons never caught on in India. I find them to be immensely practical. There have been some tasty ones like the Opel Corsa Swing, the Fiat Palio Weekend / Adventure and of course, the Octavia Combi. I've seen a few well maintained Octavia Combis in Defense Colony (Indiranagar). One happens to be a L&K and the other, a vRS. Absolutely wonderful!

Re: PICS : Tastefully Modified Cars in India

Stationwagons never really took off in India.Dating back to Tata Estate which was a lovely car, then came Fiat Sienna weekend, wasnt a great car(an uncle of mine owned it and hated it...).Then there was d lovely Baleno Altura which was an amazing looking wagon.Corsa Swing and Palio Weekend/Adventure ad Indigo Marina were relatively cheap but came with amazing practicality.Combis as Suhaas pointed out correctly the owners are pretty well-heeled.Even though manufacturer have tried bringing the trend to India,it as never been accepted whole heartedly.I doubt germans will ever bring sports-wagons to India. Its a pity!!!

A station wagen that goes like stink is probably on every one who's moved on from Single to Married to Married with Kid(s)...

My never-ending love for the Skyline (GTR range) is now taken over by my undying love for the Nissan Stagea (the 260RS in particular)... Same engine, same drive train, the same evil grin on your face when the RB26 powertrain takes you to another motoring level They cost a lot less than their coupe/sedan siblings (unlike the scene here with regards to the Octavia combi)... too bad that they can be imported into India :(

Having said that, I'm on the look-out for a good petrol station-wagon as well!!

Here's a pic of the Stagea 260RS for reference off another station wagon forum:

You said it. In 2005 I was keenly looking in the used market to replace my Gypsy and was desperately hunting for a station wagon. Found a lovely red Corsa Swing in National Motors near Garuda Mall. They wanted 3 lacs. My friends dissuaded me terribly, saying all manner of things so I went off and bought a Bolero Sportz brand new. I also saw an used Forester which at that time was going for 10 lacs! Of course the Bolero was some 5 odd lacs at the time so great value there.

I really like the Octy Combi and even yesterday morning I saw a Silver WB regn one in the MEG Golf course in Ulsoor. Thus morning I again spotted that black VRS that lives in HSR Lyt. Lovely car. I would love to get one for my father in Chennai if the price were right.

The Silver WB regn Octy Combi belongs to someone in my apartment complex.

If you are interested I could enquire on your behalf.

Hi.
Thanks. Purely from an academic point of view it might be nice to know the asking price.
It is not really practical to buy a WB regn. car in either KA or TN states. Too much potential harassment by the cops etc.
