Santro's Tacho issue resolved :D

Santro like many other new cars comes with Dual Ignition Coil Systems (DIS) Due to this the normal 4 Cylinder setting on a aftermarket tacho shows only half the RPM reading.

The solution

1. A tachometer with 2 Cylinder setting, Very easy to connect and takes the rpm from 1 coil only.

2. Autometer/sunpro RPM Adapter, Using this the 4 cylinder setting will show the correct RPM

Harsh and i, both have SUNPRO tacho fitted onto our Xing's and it rocks

For more info check out Sunpro®

cheers

Hey,
one of the t-bhpians, suren181 has modded his santro zip plus.
The mods include:
1. iridium spark-plugs and the corresponding wires.
2. stock replacement K&N air filter.
3. Hijoin HR 5 spoked machined finish 13" Alloys.
4. Bridgestone Turanza 165/65/R13.

Thats it.

And the rocks!

Happened to have a ride recently in the Jan Hyderabad bhp meet.
I thought this is the first time i have ever shifted to 4th gear at 100kmph. Wait another bhpian took it to 115kmph in the 3rd gear, and still the car can be pushed little further, we ran out of road.

Hey!
Doesnt the tachometer take the engine speed directly from the fly-wheel?
Because the deisel engines doesnt have ignition coil. or may be the setup is different for the deisel engines.
And also, with the ECU in the place, is there any way to get the reading from the ECU?

JKKKKKKKK.... this is a must have yaar!! The MRP is about 170$ but i got it from Ebay.com for 55$ + 20$ shipping. It has a two stage shift light. Very impressive u know

KK : There are ways to get tacho reading, CKP sensor is one , ECU the other but its better not to fiddle around with these.

lots of modded santro's... nice to see!
i've done some upgrades to my xing as well, and i must say the car's a different animal altogether.
1. K&N universal conical filter + intake
2. OWS iridium plugs
3. 165/65 R13 tubeless Goodyear's on alloys
4. A kicka** ICE

Car handles very well, even at high speeds (unlike the stock Santro which feels like its about to take off when travelling at over 120). The upgraded rubber takes the credit for this.
Performance has improved considerably since fitting the filter & plugs. Pick-up is better, and i've managed to push it above 160... could have done more, but ran into traffic. That's not too bad, given the stock top speed is 145 as per Hyundai. FE has improved too, by about a kpl or so (and i drive the car pretty hard!).
and finally, the car sounds sweet, in & out

if anyone is looking to upgrade the santro, i would advise them to first upgrade the rubber before fitting the filter/plugs etc. else u'll have a powerful car with terrible handling.
my 2 cents...
