I started 3 years back with a Skoda Laura Ambient, today as it stands its still pushing out a healthy 160 bhp but calling it an ambient wouldnt be fair ...

Here's a small list of all the parts I've fitted over the years to my Skoda.. trying in everybit to change it into something better...

Would like to thank all the good folks over at briskoda for the fantastic help & to me for spending a million hours of research ...

Here goes - From the front

1) L&K Bumper with front parking sensors (parking sensor activation button in the centre console) and holders for the headlight washers (headlight washers still a work in progress)
2) Maxi-dot
3) 3-SPoke multifunction steering wheel with leather
4) Full oem bluetooth with voice control and name/phonebook/calls display on maxi dot
5) Footwell lights with full maxi dot control
6) A short shifter from an Audi TT RS with a shortened gear lever
7) Folding Mirrors with puddle lights
8) Cruise Control
9) Indirect Tpms with reset button in central console
10) Automatic lights
11) Led license plate lights with oem resistor from VW golf mk6 (no bulb failure warning)
11) Recently fitted Bilstein B14 suspension with adjustable ride height and lowered by around 30mm

VCDS Activated
1) Needle staging
2) Coming and leaving home lights via fog lights
3) Daytime running lights
4) Indirect tpms
5) Individual mirror control
6) Rain sensor sensitivity reduced
7) Comfort Indicator made to 5 clicks
8) Cruise control activated & the lot

Also a few things on the inside
1) Pure beige leather interior
2) Oem rear sunshade for the rear windscreen
3) 2011 VRS pedals
4) Chrome headlight switch
5) 3d kuga mats

Ongoing project - interior door handle illumination like the superb !

Just would like to put in a word for the b14s .. What a fantastic bit of kit !! Handling is on another level, the ride even with my 15" wheels is a bit hard and bouncy on the undulations on our roads .. but the cornering ability has got me blown ... Wish the roads in Mumbai got better .. would be such a blast to drive this car all day long !

and finally a few pics at how the car sits today

I know, I need bigger wheels!

Great start to Team Bhp Pz16.

Truly you have done an awesome job to your dream machine. By the way have you ever thought to total cost involved? Anyways it won’t be cheaper reading at your additions. Would like to share?

Congratulations Pz16 on a staggering list of mods on the Laura. You have truly announced your arrival on the forum with a BANG!

While I absolutely don't wish to take the spotlight away from your nicely maintained Laura, my eyes couldn't help but wander towards the other formidable occupants of that garage i.e. yes, the Beemer and the Porsche. Those yours too?

re: My Laura with a Bilstein B14 suspension & many other Mods

Thanks for the informative thread.

How do you change the suspension height?
Some control on the dash?
How many settings does it offer and what's the GC in each setting?
And the ride has become harsh in all settings or is there any setting that matches the original level of comfort?
Can you post pics depicting this?

For Cruise control - did you have to change any hardware or add any sensors?

What a way to start your innings, Pz16!

Who would think, that a car which looks so elegant from the outside, has been tweaked and bumped up for a super luxurious feel on the inside with superb customisations (thought given to the minutest of details) .

Mind asking the break up of all these fitments? And YES! The Car now needs newer, bigger and better alloys! Thanks.

The car looks neatly maintained and I must say, thats a staggering amount of work done on it!

Didnt you face any warranty issues while changing so much of the car? Also, hope you took care of the airbag sensor while replacing the stock steering wheel. How much is the price difference between your car+mods and the L&K variant?

Welcome to tbhp Pz16. Parth right? You had PM'ed me on briskoda if I recall correctly. Seems you haven't got a remap yet?

Great car man, love some of the mods. Hopefully will get a chance to do a few of those on my car in the future, and will catch a hold of you then.

Btw are the tyres stock?

Firstly welcome to team-bhp Pz16....

Secondly that's a long list of mods..and i must say all the right ones ...

Yes you do need better shoes, and does the ambient come with Hid's or normal halogens in projectors??

Welcome Pz16 to TBHP!

It would be great if you could elaborate how you did these mods, where was it executed and what is the cost?

I will be personally keen in knowing how to do add/ modify following;
  • Maxi-dot
  • Footwell lights with full maxi dot control
  • Automatic lights
  • Coming and leaving home lights via fog lights
  • Oem rear sunshade for the rear windscreen

re: My Laura with a Bilstein B14 suspension & many other Mods

Wow, your car looks neat, definitely well kept.

When I started reading on to the additions you have made, that made me wonder how would the car look.
But if I have to summarize my thoughts - understated luxury! Excellent, subtle mods which are not to add the obvious bling factor but definitely adds to the aesthetic value. Good job at that!

Just a question, the list is quite exhaustive yet it seems in line. How did you come up with this plan?
Please do update once your interior mods are done. Looking forward to that.

Cheers!

re: My Laura with a Bilstein B14 suspension & many other Mods

Thanks to all for the warm welcome ! :-) Much appreciate it.

These mods I've done over a period of 3.5 years as said, so don't have the exact costs.. But not counting the suspension getting the folding mirrors and the maxi dot fitted were the most expensive and hard to fit ...other than that didn't have any warranty issues as all the parts I fitted were genuine skoda parts... The Bilstein b14s are the only aftermarket mod and that too was done long after my warranty got over.

@omtoatom no they aren't mine .. My neighbour's cars (sadly)
@anand - I've got the b14s they have to be adjusted from the suspension, it has a rotary knob that adjusts the height. If you see the picture where the mechanic is holding the coilover at the base of the spring you will see the black ring like thing .. That s used to change the height. At it s highest setting the suspension is lower by 20mm and goes all the way down to 50mm (at it's lowest the gc would me somewhere around 110mm)
@raVan - I've spent a bucketload .. But it's still a few levels below what I would pay for the l&k .. The only reason I bought an ambient was for the monster under the hood that makes 160 odd horses.
@ akshay .. Ya & yes the wheels and tyres are completely stock ..... FOR NOW !!
@enigmatic the ambient has halogens with the projectors ..

Thanks once again to all for the comments ... Please forgive me if I haven't answered any q's .. I'm kind of new to posting topics on team-bhp ..

Regards

re: My Laura with a Bilstein B14 suspension & many other Mods

Pz16 let me say that with that enviable list of mods, you have got a lot of Laura owners on the forum to sit up, take notice and start salivating. The itch is growing again!

In fact a few of us have been discussing some of these mods very recently on vinj's thread.

Any which way from here on expect a lot of PMs, my friend!

Wow, Pz16 - Fantastic choice of updates to the Laura. Thank you very much for sharing them.

Maxidot display and bluetooth connectivity to the car's system are great additions. Anticipate a lot of IMs from us in the near future. As Omtoatom pointed out, the itch is growing day by day.
