Default PICS : Sunroof Installation Procedure. Webasto @ Delhi

After a major fallout with Motherson india years ago Webasto had shut its operations in india, Finally Webasto is back in india and also in Delhi.

After years of waiting and search for right company and support. if finally get a sunroof in my car.

Webasto being an OEM supplier to almost all automakers, i had my trust in it. My apprehension was not the product but the installation, Procurement of the sunroof is easy but installation needs professional hands. I had seen many cases where people ended up buying Chinese sunroofs to save a buck and then installation by people who don't know what they are doing ended up as a disaster.

After finding a webasto dealer in Delhi , I paid him a visit. Long discussions happened and finally i decided to have one. I selected the Holandia deluxe LARGE 300 Model. Tough i wanted to go for the INBUILT 730 Model but that wasn't available and i was impatient to wait. All model have standard features its just the size and opening area changes from model to model.

Features like ANTI-PINCH , AUTO-CLOSE when ignition is switched off are standard.

Anyways knowing i was very particular about the installation, I was made to meet the webasto trained technicians who talked me thru the process, showed me the tools, i got to know webasto used sparkfree cutters and grinders and man they do a neat job.Proper marking sheets are provided that helps them to fit the roof properly.

The entire job sounds so tedious but they fit a roof with in 2hours if no alternation are required to the car.

I most of the cars they fit the cars with out even removing the headliner. Its that precise. In my case because i opted for a non-recommended model, Headliner had to be removed and alternation to a beam had to be made. This raised some question in my mind about the strength of the roof. So i was shown that the chassis of the sunroof will come there to strengthen that portion.

Webasto's SOP also included using an anti-rust solution on the edges where the cut in the roof is made as a precaution.

Rest installation is been shown in the pictures.

Im loving it

Rest of the pictures.

Also if you are planning to get a sunroof, Do opt for an AMC package, Sunroof requires cleaning and servicing on a quarterly basis due to dust condition here. This helps to avoid problems in the channel.

Congrats on the install and thanks for putting up the install photos. I have the same sunroof installed on my Swift P.

Most of all I'm glad to hear that Webasto is back in India. Could you post their contact details.

Neat job with the installation. Kudos to them. How do they test for water seepage? And what was the total cost involved?

Congratulations on getting a sunroof done by the best here in India.
You will love the early morning and late night spins with it open.

Whats the aprox cost of getting a Webasto Sunroof?

I too badly wanted a sunroof in one of my cars, sadly there was no webasto in cal and I did not want to settle for chinese substitutes.
Finally got the last silver piece of the Honda Civic Sunroof in India in July 2011.

@noidaboy- thanks for a very interesting thread. I have some questions:

- How is the fit and finish? Does it look like an OEM sunroof?
- What car did you get it fitted on? I couldn't tell from the pics.
- Is it VFM? An OE sunroof adds about a lac (or more) to the price. How much is this for?

I love the concept of a sun/moonroof and if this could be done seamlessly and with proper support, would not mind getting it installed in my Vento

Nice thread! Have couple of doubts - Is the order of the pictures not proper? I do see the bare roof first & then see roof lining. Also would like to see how does the roof lining look around the sunroof. In one of the pics, I see the rough edges, hence the clarification.

As someone asked, how much did it cost? My hunch is a 45K. What is the AMC cost?

Why didn't you remove the roof decal? Now it might be looking odd isn't it? Also request you to climb to the first floor of a building, after parking you car there and give us a full top shot!

Edit:: What does the 1 & 2 buttons on the console mean? I understand the buttons for moving back & forth and probably a "C"lose button too.

1 & 2 are two programmable opening positions. The 'C' button I'm guessing is one touch full close button. The best thing as already mentioned is that the sunroof is linked to the ignition. The minute you turn the engine off, the sunroof closes automatically unless you manually over ride it.

Excellent install noidaboy. Very professionally done.

1. Did you get the same checked for water leak test?
2. In case the glass gets damaged due to falling stones or coconut falling from a tree , is it readily available in market to be replaced from any makers like asahi et all or only webasto traded glass will need to be bought ?
3. How much did it cost ?

One thing which comes to my mind is adding a small deflector on front edge of the sun/moon roof which deflect winddust and other particles from getting inside the car as well as protecting the glass too.

Nice informative thread, thanks for sharing. The job done here is looking neat.

I have a question, isn't it a compromise with the safety of the structure of a car when the roof is cut to accommodate the sunroof assembly?

And another question which already asked in this thread, how much does it cost with and without AMC? What if someone living 200-300 kms away from the installer? Do they come at home to service the sunroof?
