Re: Plasti Dip in India? A Spray-on Rubberized Coating...

a video you might find useful if you're planning to Plasti-Dip - How to mask your car or truck to be Plasti-Dipped.

important point to note: always remove the masking tape (or any other material you've used) before the last coat dries up.

and here's a video on Plasti-Dipping your alloys:

i'm very tempted to try it on my alloys

Masking tape should be easily available in stationary shops.

@ revtech: Dipyourcar.com have videos on youtube. The guy (fonzi) even used a high pressure wash to clean off muck and brake dust. Maybe it has to be done as soon as possible and if left alone for a few days it sticks to the dipped surface.

I think you are in HSR Layout. After the BDA complex, there is a small shop called "itsy-bitsy" They have masking tape there.

I was thinking about the same things when I saw your post. My car has fading black plastic external parts - like the radiator area, the lower part of the rear bumper etc. It would be nice to get nice fresh black colour on those areas.

Let me know if you have made progress on this.

Does anyone know if there are cheaper options to this PlastiDip?

Um.. Nope, I'm put up at the other end of town but thanks for the tip; I think there's a Itsy-Bitsy near my place (remember wifey telling me so long back).

Re: Plasti Dip in India? A Spray-on Rubberized Coating...

Guys I just spoke to Mr. Gandhi of Cosmotech. He was extremely friendly and also offers discount on plastidip if ordered in quantities above 6 cans. I am finalizing my order on Monday. He seems to have all the matt and gloss colours.

Re: Plasti Dip in India? A Spray-on Rubberized Coating...

Got my consignment of Plasti dip. Got 5 cans of Matt Black and 3 cans of glossifier. Due to the holidays for the past 5 days the courier was delayed. First working day and it promptly reaches my office first thing in the morning. Mr. Gandhi of Cosmotech was extremely helpful.

Some pics of the chrome strip on my CRV dipped with Matt Black. I like the results. The product works amazingly well.

Interesting concept. How much did the cans of dip and glossifier cost? What is the area coverage for each can?

Does one need to use the glossifier even if using matte paint?

Looks good!

Doubt: The area covered which has extra brush-up sprays (not covered by newpaper), how did you clean it then? And what about the small areas like spaces in the "C" & "R" & "V"?

Thats one exceptional quality of Plasti Dip. Mistakes are forgiven. Just need a dry cloth (ideally microfibre) and it will easily come off. Can give the car a wet cloth wipe afterwards. Comes off without a problem.

For cutting out the alphabets, I used a combination of a tooth pick and a basic paper cutter blade. Its important that the base coat (ideally 2) are applied and it need not be too intensive, can be sprayed from a 10-12" distance. To get the desired shine and layering the spray can be held a lot closer to the area to be sprayed to get a thicker finish.

I am thinking about using a glossifier to give it a bit of a shine.

The MRP is 1250 for matt black and Rs 1600/- for the glossifier. Cosmotech do not have gloss black so i picked up a few cans of the glossifier if i'm looking for a gloss finish. Cosmotech give a 5% discount on the total price if orders are more than 5 cans. If one is happy just with the "matt" look then no need for glossifier. After doing all that work on the car and including dipping a friends "S" logo at the back of his swift, i still have more than 50% of one can. Ive read that to do a set of 4 rims (4 coats) each would only require 2 cans and maybe a little of the third. They are all 11oz cans i.e 300gms.
