VW Polo GT TDI @ 190 BHP : 0 - 100 in 7.5 seconds

After selling my Optra TCDI was searching for replacement car.
More info about my previous car..
http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/modifi...ph-pg-4-a.html

I was not keen on Polo GT tdi when there were rumours to sell it with 1.5ltr engine with lesser torque.

Everything changed when i got news
- Has Ventos engine.
- Same map, not detuned.
- Its manual not DSG.

Probably this is the only car which i have booked even without a test drive considering its PTWR and a proven engine.

My requirements were simple, It should be..
- Diesel.
- Powerful.
- Should deliver Good fuel efficiency.
- Safety features.
- Good after market support.
- Solid build quality.
- One of the best diesel performer under 20lkhs.

re: VW Polo GT TDI @ 190 BHP : 0 - 100 in 7.5 seconds

Checked with TDI racing for a remap but as they did not have remap for Vento/Polo TdI have to search for alternative.

Other 2 options were
- Petes
- Tune-O-Tronics

Went ahead and remapped with T-O-T as petes takes 3 days to remap and there were good reviews about T-O-T as well.

In T-O-T it hardly took 30 min to finish the remap.

My requirements were clear
- Reliability
- Need Power in Low,Mid and Top end.
- Safe map of around 130bhp, 300nm of torque.

What he gave me was 134bhp with 320nm of torque.
Did not bother to dyno as its almost the same map what kryptonite is running.

VW Polo GT TDI @ 190 BHP : 0 - 100 in 7.5 seconds-4.jpg

VW Polo GT TDI @ 190 BHP : 0 - 100 in 7.5 seconds-5.jpg

V-Box figures
0-100 in 8.8 sec.

VW Polo GT TDI @ 190 BHP : 0 - 100 in 7.5 seconds-polo-gt-tdi-8.82s-0100.jpg

First impressions

- Car has lot more punch and overtaking is a breeze.
- Turbo lag has reduced a bit especially in the low end, impressive pull when you are in WOT. Overall improved performance across the range.
- Its still a stage 1 remap so even under hard acceleration, The amount of black smoke generated is similar to what the car used to generate in stock conditions.
- Engine does not feel strained, Pulls cleanly from 1500 rpm - 4000 rpm.
- Driving in City/Highway, Its fun filled event.
- Post remap, Under hard acceleration mileage can even drop down to 12 kmpl or with light foot can give up to 22+kmpl.
- Have already surprised few expensive German cars with this little beast.

Sid has some 27 different maps for POLO GT, Will try out when i get bored with current one.

Finally a satisfied customer with Tune-O-Tronics after reading reviews from Kryptonite, kathikk and others.

Given the car now has more power, My next mod will be to go for performance brake pads.

Congratulation on your new redefined drive! I can imagine the on your face with 134 BHP on a small hatch.
What is the new power to weight ratio now and will this remap increase the top speed as well?
Also (only if you can disclose) how much did you spent on this remap?

Cheers!

Sounds delicious

Are the stock tires enough to handle the power output? Are you looking at getting wider tires?

Did you experience any torque steer and wheel spins?

Impressive remap there! An additional 31 horses and 70 Nm torque doesn’t sound bad at all.

Any idea how T-O-T ensure this aspect?

I am planning to get mine remapped as well but not very soon. Would like the car to run in for 5k or 10k before the first year is done. The 10k figure is a bit too far fetched but if the Leh trip goes as planned, this will happen sooner than I expect it to be.

How much has your clocked till now?

Going by the reviews, his team puts in a lot of efforts to ensure that the customer is completely satisfied. Robi was mentioning in the Pete's X-mas sale thread that they offer warranty for the whole process. That speaks a lot about their reliability IMO.

No increase in top speed, Usually in remaps the time taken to reach top speed is reduced compared to stock timings.

T-O-T remap costs 33k for Polo GT tdi.

Tires were changed the day when i bought the car to get the maximum resale value.
Will post a detailed review shortly.

They told that they have tested this map for over a lakh kms, More over Kryptonite has already covered 25k+ kms without any issues and with higher state of tune than mine.

There is no second thoughts about petes reliability, They are one of my favourites too. Its just that they remove ecu from you car and take 3 days to remap it and fix it back to your car. Remember you car has to be idle for 3 days. That was the only reason why i backed off.
Even T-O-T provides warranty like others.

Tires were changed the day when i bought the car to get the maximum resale value.
Got 3k for each Apollo acelere of size (185/60/15).

To experiment bought unidirectional Yoko db550 V rating tires of size 195/60/15.
Tested the tires in NICE road, Cloverleaf which has a U turn curve. Even under hard cornering there was very little squeal.
As mentioned in their website they are really silent tires.
In high speed braking ABS does not kick in much.
Its a decent performance tires, But still no where close to Michelin pp2s.

With 2% error in tire size, GC is good.

WOW. Those numbers are crazy. I guess your car can qualify to be a true modern day hot hatch.

Are you re working the suspension cause this is one of the things that made me nervous when I had a go at the GT TSI.

True, A BMW 320d was overtaken with ease.

Suspension will be upgraded but later.
One of my friend has upgraded to bilstein, time to test it.

For me the next mod will be to go for a performance brake pads as i feel the lack of bite at triple digit speeds.

I think you should instead invest on a pair of grooved/drilled brakes rotors for you front brakes. I replaced the standard brakes rotors on my 2008 Swift Vdi with grooved ones from EBC and it made a huge difference even with stock pads. I currently use Bosch brake pads. The feel has improved tremendously and I am able to modulate my braking much better. More expensive but well worth the money.

These discs and the Yoko ES100 combo was superb. I currently run on Michelin XM2s and the braking is still very satisfactory but the tyres occasionally lock up.

Drive on,
Shibu.
