got the sf 200 long back for i think 1200 odd, and imho nothing beats the vfm factor of ractive, even the ev 500 at 2600 odd seems a lot better when you see the K&N s at 4-5 K

If the K&N is imported as an automotive spare part, you will have to pay 168% as excise duty. I'm not sure about customs. Then there's local and other taxes. You do the math.

Well, did you upjet your carb? Carbs cannot automatically compensate for greater airflow, unlike FI. If you didn't, yes, it was a useless upgrade. And WHAT sort of 'normal' riding gives you 18kmpl on a Kiney?!

I know these points are old, and IIRC, you already have a Ractive, but I thought I'd address them in case someone going through your dilemma sees this thread.

IMHO, K&N, Greencotton and UNI are the best that we get here. HKS and GReddy make some good filters as well, but tough to find in BLR. Pipercross is pretty good, but I keep hearing it lets in dust at the cost of airflow. Please bear in mind that though the initial cost of one filter may be 1k higher, this is a purchase that lasts atleast the life of the car, if not the next car as well.

EDIT: Team effort by Stuart and C3PO.

I am looking to buy a stock replacement GreenCotton filter for my car. I checked Green Cotton Air Filters - Home Page and found that they have Part Number: P950302 as a stock replacement filter for the Palio. Does anyone have info on where I could find these filters in India? The UK price is £34.92.

Yea i knew we are paying a premium for it in India.I think i even mentioned in one of these posts...Id rather pick it up from the US itself.

C'mon rahul....you know i aint that stupid! An upjet on the kine was not possible coz the next possible jet size wont fit...So we just went ahead and bored out the stock jet.Mind you this is the jap carb...We tried it on the newer model kineys without an upjet and the bike literally choked! On m,my kine running the K&N for the first 3 days without an upjet the bike pulled normally...didnt "choke"

I picked up the Ractive pure because i didnt have the money to spend on a K&N.If i did have loads of $$$ to throw around then maybe i would hhave picked up a K&N.I do believe that k&N is a superior brand...but im happy with the performance of the ractive;and to me thats all that matters!

True true...but when ur a student and save every penny to spend on your car and not on drugs,smoking,alcohol....and when a similar k&N costs precisely 7 times more,,then i know i made a good choice!

The price for the RActive to be bought from Bombay is roughly Rs. 3850/- (dont remember the exact price). That is the reason I did not go for it. It was indeed VFM before.
