Re: Small, yet value-adding Accessories for your car

I am thinking to buy a magnetic mobile holder for my car. I checked some products and observed that most of this holders are accommodated in AC blower. My question is, will this kind of holder restrict air flow from AC.

PS: I like a clean dashboard, I never stick anything on it. That's why I don't want to go for a fixed holder.

Aren't strong magnetic fields bad for electronics/memory cards/mobile display screens?

Has anyone used these magnetic holders and experienced any negative effects on the phone?

EDIT: Did some googling (should have done that before posting) and apparently not. Magnets used to be bad for old time memory, displays and electronics, but these days all magnetic fields could possibly do to your phone is throw the compass off a bit.

They of-course will. I have one and it does block air flow to some degree. However I have reduced the vent opening from 100% to less than 50% so the air gets diverted to other vents.
However I would prefer magnetic one any day. It looks so clean and simple and very easy to just drop your phone onto it rather than struggling to snap on to a rather complex set of locking sliders.
On the other hand, The good news is that it does not get any warm even if I use phone as navigation device for very long trips

I used the similar one for sometime. As you mentioned it is very convenient and does not occupy dashboard or windshield space and obstruct the outside view.
Downside was the magnet could not take the weight of my earlier moto X style and phone would fall off every now and then on broken roads or while passing over speed humps. Yes, it does restrict the air flow from the AC vent and making the vent almost useless.

Re: Small, yet value-adding Accessories for your car

I had a magnetic holder which turned out to be useless for the Duster. The problem was the vent was rotary and the MotoG5 mobile would rotate and then fall off. I have retired the magnetic holder and bought a suction holder which does a very good job. It came off only once in more than six months of use. I attached it once more to the windshield and it is holding up quite well.

I do have this and use this occasionally in my car. It does block airflow and the phone gets cold too. Not had an issue but I haven't used it too long.

Yes it does restrict some air and phone does get cold. I use the spigen kuel magnetic mount. Its good quality and the magnet is strong. However, i am planning to get the CD mounted magnetic mount from spigen (Not sold in India, have to import from USA) soon as i don't like the look of my phone sitting on the A/c vent.

Hi, thanks for the reference. I had been using Aukey Magnetic AC Vent mobile holder since last one year or so. I was happy with that, but the only problem was the vent was getting blocked. So, after reading your post, I went ahead and brought Spigen Kuel QS24 from amazon.com. I am quite happy with its performance so far.

Re: Small, yet value-adding Accessories for your car

While we are on the topic of accessories, does anyone here have the Garmin Go? I saw the video and was very tempted to get one. Its inexpensive and is hooked on with Alexa so all of it is voice controlled. Ive been reading about it and there are reviews not very encouraging, so thought id ask if anyone on this thread or forum has tried it out.

Re: Small, yet value-adding Accessories for your car

My EcoSport has a 12v socket that it is used exclusively for the dashcam. Since I don't want to hard-wire it, I am looking for ways to allow the socket be used additionally; eg. to charge phones. (There's a USB port as well but what if I need to charge two phones at the same time )

Has anyone tried using such a product? Reliable? Any brand that works better?

Alternately, how feasible is it to use an adapter like the one below and use a USB to pin-on-dashcam wire (will have to buy that separately).

I'm using this BlitzWolf 4-port USB Car Charger with Quick Charge 3.0.

I bought it from Banggood.

I mostly charge up to two phones only at the same time and it works well. The quality of the product is good. Quick charge is available in one port only (the red one).
