There are some
must-have accessories for your car and then there are the others that are not what you need, but would love to have. Here's my list of those
SMALL ACCESSORIES for your car.
Ever since I bought my Ford Aspire I've been hunting for small value additions to it, and discovered a virtual treasure trove online. I'm sharing here a few things that caught my fancy. Most of the accessories listed below are inexpensive; around 20 to 500 rupees - nothing above Rs.1000. A lot of them are available as standard fitment in high-end cars/variants.
So if you have just bought your new car, or have been inspired to keep your old car by
this classic thread by GTO, then these small value additions are sure to add that feel good factor to it. These could also be the perfect gifts for any bhpian, or anyone who loves his/her car.
Fitting / installing these accessories do not require any special skills - they are all mostly plug-n-play or simple DIY jobs. For the few that require playing around with the wiring, and if you are not comfortable doing it, then just take it your FNG or car electrical shop, and ask them to install it. CATEGORISATION
I have split the accessories into 3 categories, viz. Interior, Exterior, Passenger Safety (I may add more in future if needed). All the products will have an item code so that it's easier for reference. Each product will also have a qualifier before the number ie. IN for INTERIOR, EX for EXTERIOR, SF for PASSENGER SAFETY. eg. IN-001
I have also mentioned the product price in rupees
(approximate dollar conversion where applicable). These are the prices prevailing at the time of writing the post. These will obviously vary with time and supplier. Be diligent in searching for the lowest price, but read customer reviews before ordering. You can also win the same item at much cheaper prices in the eBay.com auctions.
Links to purchase the product have been mentioned wherever possible. These links are for the app, so you might have to install the respective app to access them. But these links may not be active for long. When that happens, follow the link to the relisted product or use the product name as the search string. Add the word "Car" to every search, else you might get wrong results.
All DVRs, Reverse Cameras, Mobile Docks and Bluetooth Kits have been excluded as they already have dedicated threads.
BUYING
My sources are mostly international sites like ebay.com and Aliexpress.com as things are available at dirt cheap prices there, provided you have the patience to wait for 30-60 days. If not, then some of them are also available from Indian sellers, but at heavily jacked up prices - sometimes by as much as 10 times. Eg.
www.ebay.in,
www.amazon.in,
www.jazzmyride.com. It is advisable to buy things that need warranty support from Indian sites, eg. Memory Cards.
Here's a link to a thread by bhpian naveen.raju that lists out a lot more online shopping sites.
Online Automotive Accessories Stores PAYMENT
To buy from
www.ebay.com you can either pay with an international online shopping enabled Credit/Debit Card or through PayPal (your Credit/Debit Card or bank account needs to be linked to PayPal). I prefer PayPal because it offers additional levels of security and buyer protection. I have linked my Axis Bank savings account to it and payments get debited/credited directly from here via PayPal. For additional safety, I maintain just a minimum amount in this account and use it only for online shopping.
To buy from
www.aliexpress.com you have to pay with your international online shopping enabled Credit/Debit card.
I will assume that you know how to purchase from Indian shopping sites ;)
DISCLAIMER: I have no commercial interest in any of the suppliers of the below listed products. I do not own either eBay, nor Aliexpress, or Amazon for that matter. Though I have ordered most of the products listed here, I cannot be held legally responsible if you do not find it satisfactory or functional. All transactional responsibility lies between you and the seller. My effort in compiling this list is just an endeavour to save you some time and money.

IN-011 : Boot Lamp
Not every car comes with lighting in the boot area, and it is very necessary, especially in sedans. Some cars have them in the higher variants but not in the lower ones. In this case you can go the OEM way and ask your service centre to install it.
When there is no provision for it, you can go 3 ways :-
1) Visit any accessories shop and they will install it by tapping into the wires - this entails warranty risk.
2) Get a plug and play battery powered lamp like this:
http://s.aliexpress.com/qaimUbYB
Price: 80-00
Also available in local stores.
3) Get an extension for the accessory socket (cigarette lighter) upto the boot and connect a powered light to it.

Price : 150-00
