The Diesel rickshaws have a foot operated clutch pedal like in the cars and cable operated gear shifting like in all other rickshaws and geared scooters. So it is easy to remount the gear cable pulleys to the floor and operate it with a lever as shown in the picture. However you don't get H-shift, the sequential shift will remain as it is.

If the fabrication is without any additional mechanism to lock / hold the position at each gear, self weight + leverage could easily make it an 'Auto-shift'

I assume foot operated rear brake and right hand lever-operated front brake? That is truly being ambidextrous with both set of limbs!

I remember all 3 brakes were controlled by single pedal, please correct me if I'm wrong.

I don't have photos since I was driving but saw a fully gold wrapped Maruthi Swift on Inner Ring road Chennai both yesterday evening and this morning. Hope someone can get photos of it soon.

Its ingenous alright, but not unique. Almost 95% of all new Autos in Thrissur have either this or a similiar gear know affixed on to the handle bar. I guess its only the aesthetics or the sheer pleasure of using a gear knob; not sure if its any easier to operate than the OEM gear lever.

Another sight, this time near Lamington road, Mumbai. Really cool beat-the-heat hood (or is it a canopy?)for two wheelers, which I had never seen before or even knew existed. Checked online later and found out it's a common accesory for bicycles, probably 'stretched' for a scooter

That is one cool (pun intended) mod! But it might pose problems for other riders/drivers/pedestrians if the contraption flies away due to a heavy gust of wind and lands somewhere dangerous, say the windshield of a car .

Plus, there is the minor matter of convincing the Mumbai police of its legality. Going by GTO's comment quoted below, i think the cops wouldn't let go of this mod so easily.

Absolute sacrilege! Probably the worst face of the polo on planet Earth. Usually I leave the mod jobs to be viewed at the owner's perspective, but this made me sad.

So that is how it is! Once I was searching, where the hell is the clutch lever, while trying to push a parked rick which was blocking my way and I was wondering whether it had the herohonda street type of shifting. Used to peek inside the ricks at signals, for a clue. Never looked at the footwell
