Its good to see so much interest in GPS systems. I have one built into my car but i find its mostly for a novelty factor. Hopefully with this interest more maps will become available and then it will actually be usable.

cheers.

Gps On Laptops

Hai GPS geeks,

GPS laptops are being sold abroad. I wonder if it would be possible to use a GPS mouse with google on a laptop. That would be a great new solution.

I saw an Ipaq with GPS (don't remember the moder number) with GPRS using Google earth with great accuracy, error of about 5 mts !!!, we walked with it to see how accurate it is, pretty amazing. No navigation, its very good for GPS tracking.

I understand there's a way to use GPS mobile maps with a free software called Goops which allows you to use your mobile pda with google maps.

Anybody has experience on this?

I have an adept GPS receiver with HTC P3700 with SatGuide maps. Great solution, learning to make way points and points of interest to make my own map. Accuracy is not great, but you can navigate on it.

I am planning to buy a Nokia N95, has anybody used the GPS application on N95 in India? Can we add maps of Indian cities to N95?

mgmaps is great and works across most of the mobile phones that have reasonable support for Java Midlets.

If you have Window Mobile 5 or higher, try Google Navigator Pdafun.net - Google Navigator,Google earth mobile,Best GPS navigation software,Best mobile map software on windows mobile pocket pc

Vabs,

avoid the n95 for GPS purposes, atleast in India. In Delhi it doesnt work in open, near the airport. nor inside malls et al. I've seen it with two colleagues and at several shops too.

FWIW, a colleague's N95 didn't catch a single satellite on the beach in Phuket either - so I am frankly disappointed with its "GPS" abilities!

This doesn't have the Sirf III chipset. Anybody have any idea how good are the MTK MT3318 GPS Chipset? Specs say that these are 32 channel as opposed to the 20 channel Sirf III chipsets.

Should work fine. I am using an older HTC phone running WM5 and a BT GPS receiver. This works fine, I have TomTom, Mapking, Papago and Route 66 on the phone.

GPS gurujis, I have an Imate JAQ3 ( Club i-mate - i-mate JAQ3 )which apparently runs on Windows Mobile 5.

What would be the most simplest ,straight forward GPS software to use?
And whats the most popular, reliable, tried n tested Bluetooth GPS device to go along with it?
