So, it's quite probable that an ex-owner of your 1961 specimen

The Fiat-1100D was available in India from 1964-1972.
Ram, you are absolutely correct about the years of manufacture. I had a 1967 model. I thought the D (though we loosely pronounced it as "Delight") was spelt as DELITE & probably was a dilution from D'elite (as in Elite)?

For some reason, I too always thought it was spelt Delite...last week I got my hands on a 68 manual though, which clearly states Fiat 1100 Delight.
Maybe the italian spelling is delite...again, the italian manuals simply refer to it as 1100D...

Ram, is this the front end you speak of? I snapepd this a few years ago, but thought it was a private owner conversion...god its ugly! It carried a V badge upfront, and a script badge at the rear beginning with V, i dont recall what exactly...can anyone decipher it? The registration dates circa early 80s

My Dad bought a Padmini Station wagon. I guess it was a locally done job, as I don't think it was ever sold like that by the factory. It was his first car, and the car I grew up in. Some good memories in that ol' white bucket! Was sold to a guy who turned it into a taxi, or so I heard.
Same here Rtech. 2 of these were our first cars (green and blue) years back. Dont remember much but they were sold within a short period.

I remember Starline very well. I live just a few doors down from where it used to be. And now that you mention it, the car did have the starline plate riveted on the rear. Let me see if I can dig up an old photo of it. I'm sure i have one somewhere.

I found pics of scale models of the Italian 1100D station wagon...

Coincidently, the name of the German maker of this scale model is Starline !!!!!

Better pic of 1100 (old) station wagon

This isnt a 1100d, but a 1100R...the sedan sported round taillights, but the wagon rear end was common to the delight. This has a forward opening front bonnet, and different grille panel, dash etc...

heres the real deal, the Fiat 1100D Familiare.

Note the rear hatch handle carried over from previous model, and no bumper guards at the rear...both these are original...

Ive seen a handful of genuine imports in pune...all have dissapeared though...

Ciao Karl :
Quella è la versione del familare della Fiat 1100R.
la "R" corrisponde a Rinnovato.
Il vostro amico.

If you people are wondering what Ram just said. He said:
"That one is the version of familare of Fiat 1100R. the "R" corresponds to Renewed. Your friend. Ram"

Something more on Fiat in its rally days - 1984 'RALLY-DE-ENDURANCE'

Off-Topic:

@ guys - "........Arindam Ghosh, arguably the most sucessful driver out of calcutta(apart from me),.." - taken from the link by moral (rally de endurance) is still in Kolkata and is the father of Amittrajit Ghosh. Amittrajit took part in the Cochin Rally (MAI INRC round 1) in a yellow/black esteem. Arindam Ghosh owned a Group A1 Fiat but he sold it off a few years back.
