Team-BHP - Whats wrong with this K&N conical filter assembly

My Palio 1.2 completed 8,500Kms so I thought I should start doing some mods to improve performance. Called up a few people including some BHPians and almost everyone told me that the order in which one should go for the mods is :
K&N --->Iridium Spark Plugs -----> FFE -----> keep going until you are satisfied

So I got the K&N xtreme filter installed (No cold intake ...used the OEM filter box hosing)

The roaring sound of the air intake is awesome but it seems it gives a false sense of power increase. I think my filter is sucking in hot air and hence no improvement in performance.

Now my query is : what should I do to get the maximum out of the filter (I know I cant make my 1.2 into a GTX ).
getting a mandrel bend pipe work is one of the option. Would it help?

should the filter be intalled at the same location where the OEM box sits. Read in an article that cutting a hole into the bumper and placing the filter near this hole is the best location. They defined this type of installation as a cold intake (Refer to the article),though it will make it impossible to protect the filter from splashed during monsoons.

Guys Please suggest what I should do?

I noticed three slits in the left side of the front bumper which arent there on the right side. Can any one tell me why is it so. Is that a provision made for Air intake for Palios outside India or something

Your filter's location seems to be fine.
The cold air intake you've seen posted on the net where you put the filter behind the bumper is not a good idea on our roads and especially in the monsoons.
You can route a pipe from the bumper to where your filter is located and see how it works. An oversized filter can also hurt your throttle response, bigger is always not better. If you get an intake pipe made for your filter, don't get it done in 3", try 2.5" dia and get it specifically made for your car.
Got mine made in aluminium 2.5" tubing with velocity stack.

I used to have the same problem which you are facing now.
My filter was located in the centre of the engine bay and was drawing in hot air. In the mornings when I used to leave for college at 8am the car was very responsive. I used to drive from DLF, gurgaon to DCE, Rohini everyday. As it was cold in the morning the car was very responisve, however during the day I felt the car was more sluggish than stock.

So I manufactured a new CAI pipe out of aluminium in 2.5" dia and welded a custom made velocity stack at the mouth of the pipe. the filter has a 3" flange.

Will try routing a pipe from the front of the bumper towards the filter once I finish my exams next week.

That's pretty interesting. My 2002 Palio ELX doesn't have these extra slits. I guess yours is an NV from the fogs and the colour. Maybe the slits are from the NV onwards. Anybody know what they are there for?

went to this place called Engineers corporation today ( they sell and fit K&N and FFEs ) and the owner of the place told me that the set up is perfect and adding a pipe wont make a different and if I still wanna empty a few bucks from my pocket then its my wish. I have seen a few K&N setups in Palios and almost everyone including Subzero have the similar kind of setup. I am trying to put a hose routing from the bumper to the Filter to create a semi Ram setup.
About the slits , i still havent figured out why they are there and Hydrashok is right I couldnt find these slits in pre nv models

Did you mean resetting the IAT (Intake Air Temperature ) sensor or relocating it. I did some googling on it and here is what I found. I leave it on the gurus to give a verdict

Relocating IAT Sensor - This is a very simple modification that will work on a great deal of fuel injected vehicles. The IAT sensor (“Intake Air Temperature”) tells the computer how hot or cold the incoming air is. The computer will then adjust the amount of fuel being injected, as well as make minor adjustments to timing based on that reading.

The problem is that in many vehicles, the IAT sensor is located in the intake manifold, near the cylinder head. Therefore the air that the IAT sensor “reads” is much hotter than the air, say, in the intake arm. The idea with this mod, is to relocate the sensor to the intake arm. Use JB Weld or similar to patch up the old port for the sensor.

This will cause the computer to believe that incoming air is slightly cooler, causing it to inject more fuel and advance the timing a tad
