After reading all the posts so far, i am all the more confused. Not about which one is better, but do these filters really offer any improvement in performance and/or FE, or is it that the car just sounds a little "better"?

Definitely increases the FE and performance dceite.
Have installed a stock replacement filter in my Alto and yes one sure can feel the difference.

My baleno runs on a conical filter from K&N. I can testify on the performance of the baleno has changed,it just has a mild roar and sounds good. FE also has gone up, this once again is subjective because it completely depends on your driving style.
With the roar it produces you always feel tempted to floor the pedal.
A sedate driver and some good driving skills can sure fetch you extra numbers on the FE.

Mods can we get a poll started here please.
Most of the people voting here would not have had an experience with the other filter. They would simply vote because they have bought it. I dont think it makes sense, maybe the poll could be changed to which filter do you use with multiple choice options.

P.S i am yet to try these.

I have not used K&N. I heard both offers same performance and k&n is costly because of its brand. For the output I get for the cost given, I opt for Ractive here.

I had purchased mine from PJ much much lesser than 2.2k. But not sure about current pricing

Ah cool. So that's the K&N stock replacement for the Alto?
How much difference in Performance and Mileage?

As long as it is not my car, I suggest throw in some used HEPA filters from Clean rooms and it will filter much better than K&N.
Problem with K&N is that if it is not cleaned and oiled properly, it will screw up your MAF and in the long run, the filtration capabilities of K&N actually decrease instead of increasing. And then the claim about performance/HP improvement is always questionable... how many people actually dyno their car before and after? Many people think that K&N's success is good example of clever marketing practices.
That said, I use K&N on my car because the price difference between OEM and K&N replacement filter was not much.

I agree .. I am confused

I was set on getting a KnN.. then it moved to Reactive.. now am back on KnN.

Then there is a confusion of Universal or another smaller filter as well..but thats another topic

What would be the cost of getting an RACTIVE for an esteem 07.
What would be the cost of getting a K&N for the same.

Only the least prices cos i dont want to spend too much on this item. So no intakes and all.

Sorry but i had to ask this cos the more i read the more confusing it gets.

Hi there,
I got a Tata Safari Exi 4x4 Petrol/LPG, 2004. Which filter should I use for more Power and FE? K&N or Ractive??
Current FE - (approx) 9 KMpl - Petrol, 8 Kmpl - LPG
Lpg reduces the power a bit. So I would like to know what the best to improve the Power and FE esp when its on LPG.
Also, I got the standard Alloys and would like o know if I could fit spacers on it, so that the tyres stick out..

Well i agree with Rtech. Actually all the filters are the same be it K&N, ractive< Green, Piper Cross, etc, etc. I have used both K&N in my Miata lately and am currently using Ractive in my Swift. I find no difference in both. They are the same. Its all about the brand names.
I voted for Ractive on the poll not because it gives better performance of the two but because it gives the same performance at a better...make that much better price. So it is a V.F.M product and therefore gets my vote.
