Re: Tyre pressure gauge and portable inflator pump / foot pump

Ordered the Michelin tyre pressure/tread measurement gauge on Amazon for ~1500 rupees.

Comes with a tab inserted into a slit in the device with instruction to remove it before use, the tab cannot be inserted once pulled out ( evidence that the device is actually new ? )

Device is small enough to hold it straight against the valve while measuring tyre pressure on a motor bike.

I picked up the Michelin inflator during the last amazon sale and on my 205/75/R15 wheels it was able to pump from 10-35 psi in little less than 3 minutes. No heating or any other shenanigans, very happy with the device.

Ordered Viair 85P from Amazon.in. Rs.4,700 and delivered in 2 days. The seller is Swastik fabs who is well known in the 4x4 Offroad circle for off road equipment. He's the official importer for Viair.

Bought it for emergency use:

Don't buy from IB if you haven't already. I ordered few products from them and have faced lots of issues. Their customer service is pathetic. You may receive faulty product and will face issues while getting a replacement.

They won't even let me browse without entering a phone number and an email address. IB: I wanted to browse, not get spam.

Pity.

Re: Tyre pressure gauge and portable inflator pump / foot pump

Visited quite few shops for portable inflator but most of them have inflators from some unknown companies.
Was hesitant to purchase any of them.
Noticed none of them had Windtek although many had recommended it here.
Another point was one of accessories guy suggested purchasing inflator only for emergencies and not to use it for filling air weekly.
Is this right? What's the point purchasing inflator if I would be using it only in emergencies?
Should I am purchase inflator online as local accessories shop doesn't seem to store many?
Please suggest!

Many of us are using it (for regular air filling) for many years, please don't listen to that suggestion.

Please purchase online, keep an eye on price as it seems to fluctuate.

Thanks @sukiwa for your reply. It's helpful.
Can you suggest few inflator models which I can keep an eye? (Specially during next Amazon or Flipkart 'sale' period)

Please check for Coido or Windek(Analog/digital) or Michelin 12266.

Don't wait for specific sale, rather keep an eye on daily deals/offers on Amazon/Flipkart.

Re: Tyre pressure gauge and portable inflator pump / foot pump

Ordered the Viair 85P from Amazon.in.

Used it to check air in both my vehicles; works like a charm.

What I like:

- Lightweight and compact
- The power supply cable (from 12v socket to compressor) is fairly large; enables you to check air in all tyres (except spare)
- Takes a few seconds for 1psi jump
- Tiny torch at the front of the compressor unit so you can search for the pin
- Analog display shows current pressure the moment inflator is fixed on the tyre pin

What could be better:

- Digital display
- Backlight for the display; I had to use the phone torch to read the pressure
- Preset air pressure and auto stop? (wishing for too much?)

Re: Tyre pressure gauge and portable inflator pump / foot pump

Any one has experience using the foot pump, how good are they? would it be easy to handle.

If I get one of these, would it be safe to leave the spare tyre at home. It is for my C250d, the car has Turanza RFTs. The spare wheel just eats into a lot of luggage space.

Very painful. Takes a while to fill up car tyres. It's better to go for an electric compressor instead.

Re: Tyre pressure gauge and portable inflator pump / foot pump

One thing to always remember about 12v inflator is the fact that you will always find them 'fast' when it comes to inflating a nearly flat or a very low on pressure tire as compared to inflating a tire which is already at 30+ PSI. Everything happens in less than 3 minutes while it may take a minute or 90 seconds to increase pressure by 3 PSI when it's already 30 or 32.

This is a universal truth and works exactly the same for all branded inflators which more or less come with the same set up inside.

Try it out next time and you will know what I am referring to.
