Tata has a scheme where you can get like new replacement engine by giving back your old engine. These cost around 30-60K depending upon the vehicle.

Huh! They have, do they?! I wonder when do they need such a thing. But then probably in these kinds of cases it does need such measures. Do they give a new engine number of the new engine is made to order with the previous number staying for the new one? A new engine will probably mean a requirement for RTA endorsement.

Hey buddy, how many kms did your Indigo run before it reached this pass? I am just curious to know as I have seen a good few Tatas with well over a lakh kms on the odo. This is the first time I am hearing about a personal car's engine gone bust.

Think of a taxi guy who runs 150,000 and engines goes bust.
Rather than a new engine he would go for a rebuilt engine. Its not your engine. Its a "like new" engine.
Contact Tata motors workshop for details.

Diezel if your engine went bust anywhere below 1L Kms then it is a serious issue. So do let us know the km reading and what exactly the problem with your engine?

hey
sorry to hear about thye engine but how many km has it covered till date if under a lac you could tell tata guy to give you a new engine

if you want to change the engine i would suggest you to go with a toyota n1 engine its better than the tata engine in evert aspect

or if the engine is only giving out smoke and you don't want to spend much you could just change the rings and the engine would be good for 30k

Oh my car has already clocked 1.75 lakhs kms. I have really pushed the engine to the max already...

But if what u r saying is true... then I will chk up with Tata immediately...

But what they will be giving is a refurbished engine or a new one?? Because a refurb engine will be no good bcoz Tata engines are not really great in their build quality.

All service has been done by Tata themselves on my car.

OK lemme tell u hw the problems really started:

Around 1 yr back the Head Gasket went bust due to which the Gasket was replaced and the head faced.

Within a week the Head gasket went bust again.

Within 2 months my fuel pump was serviced.

Then the Turbocharger was replaced as the blades were twisted. (My car came without an intercooler. early 2004 model).

Then 2 months back Head gasket went bust again and head could not be faced again. So this time the head was replaced.

That's when the real problem started. Now white smoke bellows regularly and engine oil goes low almost every two weeks. After about a run of 80 kms, if the car is switched off and on again, it just won't start. It acts as if either the battery is low or the glow plugs are not working. But leave the car for half hour and it starts normally.

I am really having a hard time with this one.

Its a refurbished engine and comes with warranty.
1.75 lakh kms is sure long.
As for a new engine(non Tata) there is an entire market somewhere in Delhi who do cheap jeep rebuilds. You could contact those guys since you are on a budget.
Expected cost will be 30-40K.

As for your current starting problem, I think your car is overheating. But thats just one of the problems, you need a new engine or at-least a complete rebuild.
Don't know about Delhi, but in PB engine rebuilds cost around 15-20000 if you are looking for a really good high quality job. Recently had a partial engine rebuild on 140K done M800 and cost for just the engine job was around 7000 Rs.

If your car is not starting after a drive , see if your fan is working .. And also if there is water in your radiator and engine oil .. Or maybe the headgasket might have gone bust again pouring water into the engine ..

at 175000kms is a long long run, so if tata is givin engine swaps from the company itself. what about tha paper work then how does that work. dont think rto approves that now right ?
