Military Green not allowed for private vehicles?

A colleague at office is getting some work done on a second hand jeep he just bought, and one of the things he is planning is to have it painted "military green"...

However, his mech just told him today that it's not allowed for private vehicles to be painted military green and that the cops will catch him every chance they get.

Is this true? Although I haven't seen too many military green private vehicles, I haven't heard of such a rule.

Would appreciate any inputs on this.

i havent heard anything like that. AFAIK, the military jeeps/gypsies/vehicles have unique identifiation marks/registration numbers. but it can be true, because i havent seen any private vehicle of that colour. ..ok wait! @ esteem_lover - what colour is yours?

oops! just checked out his gallery - it says gaiety green

i guess he can go ahead, but then its better to be on the safeside. what say guys?

Sounds like a bs to me. Military auctions off so many vehicles, including enfields from time to time. They do not impose any conditions that the buyer needs to repaint the vehicle. If the color had been illegal for private vehicles this would not have been so. Moreover a color can not be anybody's fiefdom.

However, coming back to the problem in hand, there is a different problem here. Considering that the person has already purchased the jeep I hope he has not already got it registered in his name. Because if he has then he will again need to get it endorsed in the RC book. Before getting it painted check with the RTA.

If police catches you for whatsoever reason and then finds that your RC says color - black or some such and the color is something different then you will have a problem coming, be it military green or parrot green. On the other hand if it is properly endorsed then no one say anything, be it the police or the CBI.

Just in case, hypothetically speaking, suppose the RTA actually searches its archaic rule books and comes up with such a crappy old rule (many of such rules are added as a local state govt GOs in different states) you can still get away with it. Just call it some stupid name like Bottle Green or such and get it registered, thats it. Any cop won't know the difference and you can always feign ignorance saying that the color has nothing military about it. I know of at least one such case... it works.

Remember the 118NE, That used to come with a color called "Bottle green". It was the same as the color of military jeeps, albeit a little more lustrous.

Many years ago, I'd read that maroon was banned in Japan for all except immediate members the royal family - it was their imperial colour.

I can't remember seeing any military green private vehicles in Bombay though.

I think it will be pretty hard to clarify what they mean by 'Olive Green" and if they leave it at the hands of the cops to interpret then thats surely another way for them to make money.

The new Honda CRV also has a green, i think its much lighter, beautiful color though.

cheers.

You can't own a Military Green Gypsy, Black Amby, Air force Blue Amby..!

The restricted colour combinations are with the Cars in particular..!

At least thats what I can think of..!
