Are you sure its hydraulic? Are you referring to the one used in hatchbacks? Thats a gas strut and is used on the hood of high end cars.
Purchase, measure, fabricate and weld bracket/s and install. DONE

The Safari Dicor has the same mechanism.Have a look at it.
Re-Engineering it for the Lancer would take some trial n errors.
U can maybe use the same struts as the hatchbacks use too.

Thats cool! Well yeah the gas strut sounds good. Easy availability.
Just make sure the same struts can pick up you bonnet itself and that you have the space to accomodate the struts in the bonnet while you're mounting it.
The Dicor struts sound good too, should work with som trial n error as Nitrous said, though of course they would have a higher load rating.

Autopsyche has a kit for the vertical opening bonnet which we had seen on one of the Delhi meets. I also thought it's Hydraulic but LBM (who manufactures Hydraulic Presses) kindly told me it was not the case!!

So you might wanna contact Arush/Autopsyche for the kit.

Ya Ishan...it was a Linear actuator.......Electro-mechanical actuators type....there are hydraulic type but they are used where large forces are required....like in a excavator (JCB).....for a light job like arush had done this type will be best suited......

Linear actuator - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

this model was used in that accord.....

I think we are discussing the gas strut which is normally used in car boot to lift the door.....

edit...

vdo....thanks tsk1979 for the pic and video
