Onelap Go - A GPS Tracker for my Ford EcoSport

Lockdowns have been a crazy time for all of us but for some of us, the saved money is an opportunity to enhance our beloved steeds. After the Activa got stolen, I decided to go for a GPS tracker for my car as it's better to spend 4.7k rather than lose the car and the legal procedures are even more painstaking than the loss itself.

Since Ford does not offer complete connectivity to FordPass app for Ford Cars prior to 2020, I decided to go with OneLap Telematics in Delhi for tracking my car's whereabouts.

Contacted the concerned person(Piyush, clears all our doubts pertaining to the product patiently) through their website for more details and I got the product delivered from Delhi in 3 days flat. I opted for OneLap Go wireless tracker as there is no cutting of wires and can be put in any place. Can be used for any 2 wheeler too. Installation is pretty simple and it can be done in 5 minutes. These guys also support for fleet tracking. You can also.use multiple phones to login to track the car's movements.

The cost of the tracker increase by 1000 in proroption to the no.of subscription nurses(5 being the maximum)

There's another version of the GPS tracker which comes at for 1000 lesser but this involves wiring to the ignition which also enables remote start. The disadvantage is that this can be used only for one vehicle.

Both the models come with a SIM card and the subscription is valid for a year post which one needs to pay 1.7k/annum for renewal.

The slot for the SIM card, battery and network signal

Good packaging

Looks good and has a lot of magnets underneath

Features of this tracker are:
  • Geo-Fencing
  • Anti-theft alarm(in case some one tries to force open the vehicle)
  • Distance, driving time, idle time and speed analytics
  • Remote Engine start for the versions with wiring
  • Alerts if the Tracker is removed or if the battery is low
  • A Calling function and option to record voice too(we need to use our own prepaid sim for this, Airtel and BSNL works, Jio does not work.)

For the wireless version, it works like a power bank. Needs to be charged once a month if usage is very less and if usage is more(100kms/day) then it'll last for 10-12 days.

An alert pops up on the device with an alarm buzzing on the phone in case there's unusual movement. Even a warning triangle pops.

The alert can be turned off if it's one of your folks entering the car.

A cool thing is that the there's a play button to show the traversed path in the form of a small orange dot(have cropped that deliberately for this post due to my location privacy)

Overall a product much needed in the age of thefts which can help us safeguard our vehicles on our own. I'm no way associated to OneLap though

Glad to see this review, was on the look out for one that's wireless and with a big battery. Couple of Q's.
  • How is the lag and accuracy considering this will be concealed and won't have view of the sky ?
  • Do you HAVE to use the SIM provided by the OEM or can you swap with a one that works better in your location ? My parking spot is in minus 2 level

I have always wondered if Apple AirTag or Tile may be better options if tracking post theft is the use case. YouTube has crazy videos of people tracking tag's they've shipped several thousand km's away.

The GPS is very accurate and they use Google maps to relay your present location.

Yes, you need to use the sim provided by the supplier for the device to work. Haven't experimented with another sim. It will show the location but not to -2 level. Only the ground level locations will be shown

Re: Onelap Go - A GPS Tracker for my Ford EcoSport

I have been using OneLap's Go wireless tracker in my car for the past few months and found it to be quite useful.

There is a bit of a lag between the time that your car moves out of its geo fenced area and the alert gets triggered on your device.

You can of course use another sim card on this device. In fact the device supports voice transmission (one way) and you can listen in on the conversation between the car's occupants. But the sim card supplied along with the device is data only.

So the only option is to buy another sim card (data+voice) and replace the original one with it. But you will have to inform OneLap about the sim card swap so that they may register your new sim card.

Re: Onelap Go - A GPS Tracker for my Ford EcoSport

Good day to the team BHPians!
Tried sifting through threads to find any mention of Traker for a Hybrid car but couldn’t locate. Would appreciate any help and guidance on choosing a suitable GPS tracking device (preferably an OBD based) that I can use in my Lexus ES 300h (a hybrid automobile).

Just to explain, I have used a relatively well publicised devise but realised that the data being compiled is not suitable for a hybrid system where it translates engine off as end of a trip even though the vehicle is moving.

Would request Mods to correct my explanation if deemed required considering this to be my first post in the forum.

Thanx in anticipation.

How much time does the device take to fully charge? Also is it safe from the heat generated inside a parked vehicle? That is my main concern.

Charging time will be the downtime this device is not performing it's chief function since we will be charging it at home etc. This is the only disadvantage I see.

There are devices which connect to the MBD as well, I don't recollect the names though. But that's a better option. You will need to remove it only when your car needs to get serviced.

Yes, it is safe and does not get heated up too much. Charging time is 4-6 hrs and subscription for their SIM is 1.5k annually.

Hope this helps!

Got the device yesterday however it would not connect. The support guy asked me to driver 500m to 1K for the device to get activated. Is this true? Don't remember the videos or the did not find any such thing in the manual. Will give it one more shot tomorrow and if it does not connect I will apply for return of the device, have bought it from Amazon.

I was going to for a quick drive, I had kept the device on and by the time I removed my car's cover etc and got in the seat to drive out I noticed the device lights had stopped blinking and were stable. So I restarted the app again and it connected. Seems to be working for now but the last updated time on the car icon shows half hour ago. Seems keeping it in hidden places may not allow for a good connection. But I will observe when I drive and see if changes.

What is the polling interval for a parked car for this? Does it update every few mins or at any specific interval? I am yet to find a perfect spot to fix the device. My car is parked most of the time and spots that I chose the connectivity is not great. My car is also covered with a TPH cover which may interfere with the connection. Once I remove the device I notice the GPS light blinking and it needs several minutes to get stable post which I fix the GPS in a new location to check its connectivity. So far on the third hidden spot which again is not great. Yet to test while driving out.

Re: Onelap Go - A GPS Tracker for my Ford EcoSport

I finally found a sweet spot where the GPS works fine and is still hidden. Had to do trial and error methods to get a proper signal. Had gone to work yesterday and the GPS was able to show the exact location and route taken and also showed the highest speed attained which was 72 Kmph( I live in Mumbai ). Overall happy with the purchase. Will see when the battery needs charging. Thanks to the OP for reviewing this product. Very helpful.

Re: Onelap Go - A GPS Tracker for my Ford EcoSport

I got this device today, looks pretty good.
I realized that for voice monitoring you need to have your own sim card in it with data and validity. Now it's possible to get a sim card which can accept incoming calls at very cheap rates however the data plans are kind of bummer!
Is anyone aware how much data does it consume at minimum ? What GSM/LTE band does it require at minimum ? Any recommended Telco with plans that will satisfy the needs of voice monitoring + tracking.
