Seems to be a sudden spurt in everyone's sense of humor. Let me clarify lest this leads to WW3:

1) The VW in the first pic (Post #2) IS NOT my car. I only said that's how I'd do it.

2) The dolphin in the second pic (Post #9) IS my car. I used that photo only to express my disdain for the whole K&N thing.

Thereby making my relevant contribution to this thread.

Any problems with that?

Does anyone know what K&N Air Filter fits in a 2002 Lancer (indian lancer)? Please let me know the Part number from K&N website (K&N High Performance Air Filters, Oil Filters, & Cold Air Intakes - Official K&N Engineering Site)

You didn`t clarify in your post (#15) as to which pic/car you were reffering to thats why the confusion.

Which set up do you guys think is feasible in terms of performance and vfm? I am just worried that on getting a typhoon or cold intake fitted my engine would just heat up. I seem to be posing this question to everybody in the forum as well as outside but nobody gives me a clear cut answer. In chennai's hot weather I just need to know which is the best option.

Now if only people did some basic performance testing(no dyno needed) instead of "Car feels faster" "Low end grunt is better" it would lay a rest to this debate.
Most people who have K&N filters installed do not have any idea in terms of "numbers" about the performance of their car.
You do not need a 0-100 number just s 20-80 in third gear and 40-100 in 5th gear to tell you whether the money you spent was worth it.

rjstyle,

Pretty cool setup you have there. Would appreciate if you could give us the specifications and the cost. Is that a typhoon I see there? Where did you source it from and how good is it in terms of hp increase and overall performance and growl/grunt?

Will I be able to fit in one of thos in my lancer and what would I need to do that? Any idea where it can be sourced in chennai?

thats just a conical filter..you better get a TYPHOON kit (part number : 69-6540TB or 69-6540TP ..i think) if you want a increase in the hp..i think it increase 4.5 hp..and the cost would be somewhere around 6K to 8K or 9K..and....red..the installation has to be in such a way that it should not suck hot air or water..how about shifting the battery to the boot so that you get extra space for the installation..

redsfx thanks mate.

Thats a Conical filter from K&N.
Cost is here http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/333975-post147.html .

Install was done here in bangalore. Chennai ,I have no clue. Try contacting one of our fellow members in chennai.
Growl definitely yes a mild one. I love it, but that has given way to my FFE sound which I even enjoy the more .
Performance yes a little bit. Increase in bhp . No clue man, havent been able to measure it as such.

I would. They work. But they're rather expensive in India.

That's a horrible install. Poor engine is going to be starved of air.

Also, is cyl 4's exhaust really going into the radiator?!

thats why i suggested shifting the battery to the boot so that a typhoon kit can comfortably sit there..and the if u look real close, the cyl 4's exhaust goes to the manifold ..notice the pipe from the radiator is a seperate one and it does not merge with the 4 cyl's exhaust
