Re: Terrible experience tuning my Tata Harrier.

This thread negatively affects the quality of Team BHP in my opinion -

1. OP seems like he conned TAMO to get the ECU fixed under warranty - Unethical
2. Tuner said he got OP's consent and hence went ahead with the tune - Shady
3. I am not sure why everyone is praising TAMO here. They seem incompetent or totally did not consider the fact that somebody would have the guts to tune a TATA car.

To the MODS: Tuning itself seems to be a shady grey area in India. There are certain things that can be done but requires approval from the RTO or are outright illegal. Therefore, caution should be exercised before such posts turn wild.

That would be the correct way to be thankful to Tata IMO. The OP should own up to his actions and pay for the warranty replacement done. Being of the opinion that the car had CEL ON during PDI doesn’t change the fact that it was driving just fine before the tuner worked on it.

Even though there is nothing surprising how the customers are treated here, the above words from the tuner is not tolerable for me. The first one indicates what he feels about his customers and the second one is a treat to this particular customer. Really sad to see this.

There is famous quote by Mahatma Gandhi on how to treat a customer:
"A customer is the most important visitor on our premises. He is not dependent on us. We are dependent on him. He is not an interruption in our work. He is the purpose of it. He is not an outsider in our business. He is part of it. We are not doing him a favor by serving him. He is doing us a favor by giving us an opportunity to do so".

So this entire fiascio is just a deframing act . Nothing else .
  • Why would the dealer check a lot of other hardware on a car which is scheduled to have an ECU replaced(remember it came limping with a CEL)? Isn't this a colossal waste of their time?
  • Why would a customer get an ECU that is to be replaced flashed? Isn't this a waste of time for all involved?
The OP has not come clean on the facts (neither has the tuner) and the post thanking Tata seems to be an afterthought. Too many loose ends in the story and is not worthy of following anymore.

Re: Terrible experience tuning my Tata Harrier.

I wasted 20 minutes of my life reading a thread which has absolutely no outcome out of it.

Can we just close this thread and get back to discussing cars rather than dissing each other?

What did we learn?

1. Don't tune Tata cars.
2. Tml service is good
3. Tml engineers could not figure what caused the issue(?)
4. Tuner is not responsible neither is the owner.
5. Just get quicker/faster cars if you want more performance.

Re: Terrible experience tuning my Tata Harrier.

It isnt easy for the field engineers of Tata motors to detect the remap. They are not Mercedes or BMW or a German OEM to be well versed with these things. Especially when the issue concerns with open circuit related errors, the first thing that anyone suspects would be a fried ECM circuit. Lets not blame who caused this since thats pure speculation. They would have quickly concluded that the ECU is faulty and replaced it under warranty. After all, warranty replacements isnt something new for them.

Only if they got some obvious clues of the remap, they would have analysed the diagnostics in detail and then denied warranty replacement. Normally every ECU would have a flash counter or an anti rollback mechanism which will increment every time a new software is flashed onto the ECU. They would have to correlate this with any software update activity that was performed at the dealer level itself to really prove that there was an extra flash that took place. Thats too much to expect from them.

So this has been a royal mess right from the point of going for a remap with active DTCs on the ECU, and after that creating a scene out of this thread and then trying to justify or glorify anyone. Just be happy that the outcome was overall positive and forget the rest as well as this thread.

Mod Note:

We're temporarily locking this thread for further review.

Thanks!

Mod Edit 3/16 (heh!) says thread stays closed. Enough back & forth, no further productive discussion likely.
