Guys, a friend at work (ananddutta on the forum) took some pictures of a Jeep engine swapped for a Tata 407 engine in Mahindra. I saw them and found that it was a very well executed job. My friend swears by the torque the jeep puts out. Here are a few pictures for you guys to enjoy:

The horn:

Horn compressor behind the rear bumper:

Wow- this is the first - however - how safe would it be keeping a compressor near the rear step - we had an instance when the jeep reversed- the rear step hit the ground (while offroading) and it punctured the fuel tank ( it was in the same position as this compressor. just a thought.

Hey Madan, interesting observation. However this jeep is in Vidisha (Near Bhopal) and we cannot change anything there.

Bhopal is jeep land!

Anyidea about the Gearbox? Has the transfer case being retained?

Is it a 4WD or RWD??

I doubt they can retain 4WD with such a swap but I will confirm this with my friend.

Hmmm. Now, im quite sure its just a RWD and not a very tough swap since this already runs on the Spacio.
If it was 4WD, ex670c would get interested. :)

As Nitrous said, this has already been tried by Tata in their rural equivalent of the Sumo. Its called the Spacio. That vehicle also is a brute when it comes to sheer pulling power. The torque is humongous. Basically the kind you need to work in the rural hinterlands where 20 people will get into and above the vehicle. But the Spacio creates a racket that has to be heard to believe. :D

Hehehehe there are quite a lot of them here & are also used by some Govt. departments. About the noise, well let me put it this way, if you're driving with your windows down & there is one behind you, you don't have to look in the rear-view mirror to confirm which vehicle it is!

And yeah, I find the whole soft-top arrangement very unsafe looking even though it does have a tube structure under it. And needless to say the lack of proper doors & a roof does no wonder for the NVH.

Anyone wishes to see a video of this car engine running at idle?

You think it would end up behind a 106bhp OHC Vtec with FFE Exhaust and piggy back chip boosting power to 120bhp?
