Confused between CNG/LPG/Petrol

Dear all,

It's always recommended that incase you don't drive for approx 50 Kms daily, then it's not advicable to convert your petrol vehicle into CNG or LPG. I have gone through many threads but still not able to find the exact answer for the same.

Is it just because of the high initial investment you make or it's the time factor to recover your investment. Pls advice.

According to my calculations

Cost of 1 lt of petrol 50 Rs
Cost of 1 Kg of CNG 22 Rs
Cost of LPG 1kg 25 Rs

Mileage of Accent In petrol 9
Mileage of Accent In CNG 12
Mileage of Accent In LPG 8

Cost per KM
Petrol 5.55 Rs
CNG 1.83 Rs ( saving of 3.72 Rs per km)
LPG 3.12 Rs ( saving of 2.43 Rs per km)

KM's to breakeven considering cost of 46k and 26k for CNG and LPG kit ( both closed loop) 12365 for CNG and 10699 for CNG. So even if I drive 25 Kms per day my cost can be recovered in 495 & 428 days respectively .

So is the time frame the only reason?

Thanks
Saurabh

Reasons mentioned by you are valid ones, Apart from that :

1. If the car is under warranty you will loose warranty.
2. If CNG/LPG installation has not done properly you will end up with lot of issues.
3. Using of LPG/CNG in long run will affect engine and other parts. But based on what I saw CNG/LPG/Diesel is worth for people with high usage like daily at least 70km. I saw many people using LPG in bangalore car clocked more than 3 lac. km (taxy guys example) and car is stil going fine.
4. There will be small drop in pickup.
5. chances of loosing resale value or getting better resale value based on person who is buying your car at the time you want to sell your car.

Regards,

Ravi.

I'll reply point wise

1.My car is not under warranty so no issues.

2. I think senior members can help finding good guy in Mumbai.

3. On the contrary I've heard CNG/LPG being more clean than petrol help increasing engine life.

4. I think with Accent I can manage with a little less power.

5. That can be left when I sell my car perhaps after 3-4 years.
