G-Tech on your Cell phone.

came across this nice application for symbian S60 1st/2nd/3rd edition phones.
( most of the Nokia phones )

GTx

some of the things it claims to do
displays current speed, maximum speed of session and peak speed of acceleration run, displays acceleration 0-100 km/h and 0-400 m, or 0-60 mph and 0-1/4 mile, or any given speed range and distance.

Tempes GT Features

This can be used with a bluetooh GPS recevier or the inbuilt GPS receiver in phones like N95.

got a cracked version for 3rd edition phones already ..now have to get GPS receiver...Has anyone tried this before?

I havent tried it, dont have a GPS receiver yet.. someone having a bluetooh GPS receiver and a S60 Nokia phone please try this.

now about its accuracy

The charts below show comparison of GT and Race Technology AP22 results. Both charts contain results of four censecutive acceleration runs. AP22 is a silicon accelerometer based performance meter with claimed accuracy of 2-3%.

Why should it not be accurate? Many high-end timing devices, that are used for professional purposes, do use GPS to clock the time.

Excellent find!

take the example of an n95. its gps is nowhere as good as say a dedicated gps reciever such as garmin. ive heard it refreshes only every 4 seconds or something like that.

Hi! I tried it today, but rougly; couldnt accelerate full throttle. Meaning, no proper free roads to try it. Will try this in evening in a deserted road and update on it.

But I got to see how it works..

When the car is stopped, it shows GO!
When you start accelerating, ACCELERATING shows up
If there's a speed decrease like, speed decrease like slowing down for something, it shows INVALID, INACCURATE!

This much only I was able to see. I shall try to test it this evening on a proper deserted road.

In the evening I was able to do only a 0-40 test.

Exported the data to the pc and its as below

23-10-2007 16:32

0-40 km/h: 5.6 s

0-10 km/h: 1.3 s
0-20 km/h: 2.7 s
0-30 km/h: 4.1 s
0-40 km/h: 5.6 s

0-10 km/h: 5 m
0-20 km/h: 12 m
0-30 km/h: 23 m
0-40 km/h: 39 m

Peak: 42 km/h

0-20 mph: 4.3 s

I think I'm dissapointed with my 0-40 time. I shifted at 3k rpm at 1-2 gears.

I wonder how it would be for the cars that does 0-100 in sub 10 secs..!

I hope its inaccurate
