Re: Roof box

I was also looking for roof boxes on Nexon. Not able to find any dealers in Hyderabad. Any reasonable shops selling roofboxes in Hyderabad?

Re: Farad cross Bars on Ertiga

On long journey, With 6 people onboard, luggage space was like Tetris game for me. I had to enforce only airbags which could be squeezed in. After much research, went in for Farad cross bars ALU 130 cm and roof box for the Ertiga. I have installed the bars, after multiple video calls with Farad I am not convinced with the setup. The rubber footings is not flush with the roof. Have attached few pics, I am following up with Farad to know if it is indeed correct kit for the Ertiga.

Re: Roof box

I am thinking of a roof box, mostly Pentair, for my Skoda Yeti. Just wanted to know if such a box would affect handling/body roll? My yeti is Petes mapped and running on B6s If it does it significantly, I wouldn't bother!

Got one for the Yeti! Chose the flattest from the bunch, the most expensive though! Went to the Skoda ASC and got the 'skoda' lettering on it. Very functional too, around 400L! No extra sound, body roll/handling issues yet to be experienced!

Re: Roof box

After much confusion I got the Farad roof box for my Jeep Compass. The package was sent promptly from Mumbai and arrived intact.

It’s a big box, 6 x 2.5 feet and 40 inches high at the tallest point.

It was paired with black aluminium cross bars and had all the necessary fittings.

Got excellent support from Farad and they even sent an extra pack of fittings after I managed to slightly shear the head of one of the bolts during my over enthusiastic tightening.

All in all I find it to be very well built and everything fits properly with no corners cut or adjustments to be done.

I wa not expecting it to be so well engineered to be honest.

There is minimal wind noise and a slight hiss is heard above 100 kmph only if you are listening for it.

I would definitely recommend Farad for at least the Jeep Compass.

Guys, which exact variant & size (litres) did you both get? I have bought the identical FARAD roof bars for my 330i but faced a fair amount of wind noise at 100+ km/hr, hence held off on the box itself.

Is it possible that once you fit the box, the wind noise / shuddering is actually less due to better airflow?

Any design flaw which traps the air/wind, even a minor hole/depression would produce the annoying hissing/whistling sound. I had a pair of crossbars with me purchased in China. Must have paid around Rs.20k equivalent then. It fits very tight, and nothing protrudes out.

The roof box is from Pentair and not sure about the exact model. It’s their ‘sport’ variant meant to be the most silent and fuel-efficient. (Looks similar in design to the Thule Motion XT Sport). I will update back in a week on the real-life FE figures and other details. So far, no wind noise at all.

I tested the wind noise with both settings. Once with only the Cross Bars (Wind Noise started at 65kmps and it was loud howl) and then again with the Box attached. With the box attached, there is no wind noise at all till 100, after that its just a slight whisper that sound like a hiss, but only if you are keenly hearing for it.

With a little music, you cant hear any wind noise.

My box is the Farad Crub box.

Thanks! Suspected the same. I'm angling for the glossy black Marlin or Koral 400 litre ones.

Did you get an outstanding deal from FARAD?

The cost was close to 45K for the full set. Not a great deal, but at-least not day light robbery that FCA sells their official accessories for or if you go in for other brands like Thule etc. For the price I think it is value for money. Everything just fits perfectly.

BTW, Farad India is now OEM supplier to FCA India as per what they told me and their boxes are being branded as MOPAR and will be supplied to FCA India.

They are also doing field testing with Maruti.

Please Note: I have no dealing with Farad India except that I am a customer.

45K is an excellent deal for the box + bars. I will also go ahead depending upon the 4th wave.

Re: Roof box

So I spoke to an accessories dealer and they are quoting 54K for MODULA (CIAO). I am not sure the quality but they say it fits my XC60 and is 430 litres.

Any one here have any experience with this brand?

From my extensive research earlier, it's well regarded in the EU. They used to sell it here earlier but probably stopped due to COVID.

https://www.modulacs.com/en/

I'd go for it if priced sensibly. Thule prices have just skyrocketed in the last couple of years

No experience with Modulo. If you are based out of Bangalore speak with Ramesh on +91 9972021616

I bought my Thule Motion XT from him and he may be able to give you more options from Pentair as well.

He's a great guy to talk to.

Re: Roof box

Finally got the Roofbox installed. Got to test it, long drive from BLR to Udupi. Car was loaded to brim, Roofbox loaded with 4 cabin sized bags. Mighty impressed Car handled this additional load without any struggle. No Wind noise with box on but just with the bars there is a slight hiss for speeds above 90 kmph.
