Modifying a Premier Padmini

I am in the process of modding a Premier Padmini.
I would require your help to clarify a few things.

1) Where can i source a Maruti 1.3 ltr MPFI engine and its gearbox? What
would be the pricing of them and who to contact considering that i'm from
Kolkata.

2) I want to widen the body by placing wheel arches on either side. But i
want the wheels to be at the same widened level (widening the track) .
What is the most cost effective way out. Do i need to replace the the
axles?

3) Since the Padmini is rear wheel drive, will it be possible for me to fit the
above mentioned Esteem gearbox which in general drives the front
wheels?

I require your help in these above issues guys even though it might take
some time for me to start off (i've just started working).

Thanks & Regards

show me your car first and then i will definitely give you the details.

but tell me something:

1. why do you want the transplant?
2. why dont you just get hold of a esteem/swift and play around with it?
3. tell us more about yourself - where do you stay? - what is your name? how about a pic of your car. (use http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/introduce-yourself/ )

have you seen these?

about your queries:

1. get in touch with MASS in Kolkata.
2. get in touch with either Mr. Niaz Ali (Hell Kuul), Mr. Dhabhar (DHABHAR.BEHRAM) or 1100D in the forum or the tuners in Kolkata who were in this business few years ago. i am sure you must have heard about Asgar da, Kochi, Mithil Chakraborty, Alok da.
3. try the gypsy engine and gear box / go through the 4th link i gave you.

Thanks for your reply Planet. Those thread links are really of great help.

Well i'm Joseph from Thakurpukur. I do not have the car yet. There's one in my "para" which the old man is willing to sell. But i have to wait before funds come in. I'm making an enquiry before i set out.

I'm pretty new to these things so i don't know any of the people or MASS whom you've mentioned.

I don't want to buy an esteem or swift cause they'll just end up looking the same. I want to challenge my own creative mind so and moreover the padmini has caught my eye to do something interesting with.

I'm actually interested in a fuel injected engine cause i might go in for ECU upgrades in the future. But if it gets out of hand (both logically & financially) then i might just chuck the idea.

Hope you can help me out.

Regards
Joseph

well - you can make a stock car go fast - just gotto tune her properly - also a stock engine can be modified to make the car go faster.

all you gotto do is get in touch with the right people - there are a couple of people (fiat owners) who owns Rally Spec Fiats in kolkata. one of them stays behind New Market, Esplanade and the other person stays @ Rodown Street (near Cookie Jar) - get in touch with the mechs who used to tune the rally spec fiats - Alok da, Azgar da to get some idea as to how you can go about with the project.

but what i think is that - if you do the transplant the car will have the body of a Fiat but its soul will be missing.

heres an idea. i had seen a padmini at the mumbai speed run. it had a turboed contessa engine. and that thing was fast. it almost beat an octavia rs in the quarter mile. infact it even had the lead for 3/4th of the race.

Planet Rocker i agree with you,

I had a chance to restore one Padmini for my Cousin,

I retained the original engine,(Completely redone)

Did the complete floor works and a dupont paint finish, and custom color for the upholstery.

The car still runs on petrol, and yes if tuned properly the stock car itself can handle well and go fast.

It actually doesnt make sense swapping the engine.

Pavan, could you suggest how much it would cost for the stock engine overhaul and the dupont paint job?

Hey planet,
Went and met this Satya Da in behala and talked to him about a possible S1 purchase. He'll let me know after talking to the owner.

He's got a small garage and has been servicing fiat's for as long as he's been a mechanic and is quite passionate about the car. He was quite stunned that someone of this generation wanted to buy a fiat!!!!!!!!!

For everyone's info, he's got an old padmini lying in his garage. its engine life is over but to my surprise the body remains in a superb condition. If anyone wants a donor car for body parts let me know.

Regards
