Alloys for white '04 Alto Lxi

Please suggest which of the following would be good for my white '04 Alto Lxi. These were the only ones I could find in the size 13" x 4.5J. I'm planning to go for Michelin XM1+ 165/65 R13 tyres. Would the tyres scrape against the wheel well? Any other suggestions? Tyre gurus please advice.

Hey mate,

Is there any specific reason as to why you are planning to go in for 4.5J & not 5J. From what I learnt on this forum was that 5J can easily be accomodated in an Alto, without any issues whatsoever, it's 5.5J that can cause problems.

Plus, 5J has many options & it is the ideal width (I suppose) for the tyres you intend to install on your car.

Regards.

I didn't find any 13" x 5J makes on the net. Stock is 12" x 4B.

Oh ok, got it now. However, you can find such designs (13" x 5J) on Neo & League. For League, the two models that I had seen some time back were LG336 & LG211. As for Plati or HR or Prestige, I do not remember about them. But do check with their dealers once if not done earlier, as I remember having seen their designs (13" x 5J) as well during my search for alloys. Might be wrong but there's no harm in checking if not already done.

Drive safe.

This one is slightly OT: About engine oil, those who have moved from Maruti Genuine Oil to other brands, please share your experience, for last 20k KM I am using Castrol Magnatec and I can feel the difference in engine performance. Now I found another product from Castrol, Edge, they claim its their best product ever. Has anyone used it? And If I want to move to used better quality Gear oil and break oil, what are my options? And Can I install a K&N cold air intake in my Alto?

When i had gone looking for alloys i didnt find many designs in 13" x 5j or 13" x 5.5 j. you can put upto a 5.5j rim without complications. even a 165 section tyre should not ideally rub. my car is running on 13" x 6j rims and i had to get spacers installed and have had to get the fenders rolled so that the tires do not rub the body. i hope you find some nice designs in 5j or 5.5j rims. what would the availability of 14" x 5.5 j rims be? are they easily available or is 14" x 6j the only way to go?

Yes you can, should cost you somewhere around 5K-6K for K&N. But you might want to check up on the prices to be sure.

lilMonSter: are we still talking about the alto? The concensus is that 155/65 R13 on 13 x 5.5J will scrape the wheel well.

i am also talking about the alto only, but i didnt know that a 165 section would rub. sorry about that. My point is that if you really want something you would eventually figure out a way to make it fit. my alto is my guinea pig ... why would a 155 rub? it's just a hair wider than the stock 145's?
vj_maverick is running 155's or 165's on a 5.5j 13" rim and he has not faced the rubbing issue.

Hey mate,

Please let us know if you find one. I am interested in getting a tacho for my Alto. However, according to Pricol (the company that makes the Alto VX console) the tacho won't work in 0.8L Alto. I have already spoken to them about this.

However on another thread, we were just enlightened with the possibility of getting an AStar tacho. Myself & krazydriver84 are planning to go down to a MASS for the same as the cost involved as indicated is only around 1K.

Drive safe.

Ok, I had asked my SA and he said it won't work for clear lens Altos & moreover the cost & ODO reset are putting me off. Astar's tacho will be perfect I guess.

Hey mate, can you confirm if the VX console would work for the old model Alto i.e the one without clear lens headlamps. I am asking because your SA specifically mentioned the clear lens Altos. Also, while you are it, I would request you to confirm with your SA if the AStar tacho can work or not, please ask for both clear lens as well as old model Alto.

My SA is out on vacation at his village & I cannot reach him, & that's why I would be grateful if you can ask the above queries for us.

Drive safe.

Hey mate,

I am not sure about vj-maverik, however I also think that he is running 165s. But at the same, he also got some sort of modification done to his wheel wells, like got them bent further inside or something.

And about 155s, they would run fine, as the difference is only 10mm, there would be no scraping. But with a 5.5J rim, you are increasing the effective width by approximately 1.5 inches if I understand correctly & an inch is approx. equal to 25.4mm.

Gurus may be able to make this clearer, in case I am wrong somewhere.

Regards.
