Re: Cooking options on a road trip

Getting back to cooking options, old model Jeeps and Jongas, with the muffler box under the driver's door and seat had lots of space to mount a cooking apparatus, or simply a keep-warm compartment. Additional benefit, in warmer climes, the driver's seat being less of a 'hot seat', literally !

Similarly, the radiator and its surrounds (READY-WATER, in mechanics' lingo) could supply ready hot water for tea/coffee, boiled eggs etc, if a tank was mounted in/around the empty spaces !

Both pics of Nissan Patrol (Jonga)

I do not think that these contraptions would be possible in any modern car due to logistical issues. But here is another possibility that could be mounted on the exhaust pipe ...

Re: Cooking options on a road trip

Off-car, I prefer the folding wood stove which works on twigs and small pieces of firewood, or the folding solid fuel stove which works on camphor-like tablets. Both are very compact and can be carried in a pocket of a backpack. The former should have no safety/legal issues, as inflammable fuel is not carried on board. And the latter is only practical for making tea/coffee, or a quick 'warm-up'.Cooking options on a road trip-wood-burner.jpg

The third, a butane burner, is the most expensive (fuel-wise), but also the most practical, as the cans can cook for more than two hours each. But this is not without carrying safety issues, though campers abroad regularly use themCooking options on a road trip-butane-burner-1.jpg

You can check out the local camping gear stores or wait for the exact same one to be back in stock on Amazon India. Sadly, the government of India has imposed substantial restrictions on imports by everyone except corporates

Still, here is the link ...

Re: Cooking options on a road trip

There is another on AMAZON.IN , a TRIPLE fuel stove -- alcohol, gasoline, and diesel -- similar to the Coleman duel fuel :
