Dragger dude,,What u have mentioned is true and my knowledge too is confined to that but remapping is what I wana know hows it done!!Guess its reprogramming the ECU software itself permanently for either performance or fe...

hey wolf,
remapping is when they alter teh FUEL MAP and teh IGNITION MAP....for better performance, fe or torque or top end power etc. it is the customisation of the ecu for your requirements. this depends on what mods you have on your car.
for example i have a stage 3 cam, tehn i wuld need more fuel in then a normal engine also i can rev much higher say 8000revs. then the ecu will be remapped to give more fuel and thw rev limit can be shifted to 8000.
the resetting of an ecm will put it in teh learn mode within strict parameters set by the company whereas remapping is done when you need it to be set beyond tehse parameters.
hope this covers your doubts

Without remapping (or replacing) the ECU, i don't see how high torque can be achieved at low rpms.

A free flow can marginally improve torque and power at a given rpm but, i don't thing that would be enuf.

The only way you can get massive torque and power increase throughout the revv band is if you fit a SC.

okay friends, i guess i almost got the car problems sorted out..!! I went & got my injectors & engine carbon cleaned up totally!! I put a K&N cone filter with a custom designed plumbing for the Vtec ....as well as i advanced the ignition timing for better low end torque...! So i guess now i am pretty much set....! i will be putting plugs, wires & pressure regulator in about 3 weeks time...! And yeah my mileage also looks to have improved marginally!!

Hey thanx Iceman for the xplaination...My thought about remapping was very close but I just wasnt confident bout the stuff I knew and didnt know how to express in words.Cool now I know it better...
Now, what is SC that shan2nu has mentioned!!!...And truthfully speaking I prefer carb engines as all this remapping crap can be neglected...huh...
