My 03 Corolla master key seems to have worn out. I have to struggle for it to turn to the ACC position in the ignition cylinder whereas the slave key works just fine. Called Toyota A S S today just to find out that a Toyota Corolla Master Key would cost me Rs.5000/-

This price is for the Master key which doesn't come with a built in remote like the Skoda. So I don't think Skoda is the only one out there to rip their customers off!!

O T : Any solution for Toyota Keys??

If you are asking for a new pair of keys so that nobody can misuse the lost key, they may need to relace the locks on the doors/boot etc, in which case Rs 8000 is not unrealistic.
Is this the case?

PS:Sorry I had not read the estimation which clearly says it is only the key and remote.

I bought a Maruti Swift VDI a few months back & tell you what..,
I asked my jeweller to make an exact replica of my Swift car key in silver.
This gold plated silver key works, ie., I can open the car's door & dickey & unlock the steering wheel. It just wont start the engine due to iCATS.
I wear this silver key in my gold chain along with my Tirupati gold Dollar, just as a precaution in case i lock myself out of my car.
Now, do you guys know how much this gold plated silver key cost me ?
Take a wild guess.., Just Rs.250/-
Compare this to a Rs.8000/- Skoda car key ( was just wondering, is this skoda key made out of gold)
Such things happen only in india
The reason for making a silver key was:
in my other car (a Santro with Autocop) I have locked myself out the car atleast 6 times & that too on trips outside my home town. The other key is at home & I am 500kms away. Now starts the big CIRCUS. open the side window channels, insert a screwdriver/steel scale/plasticscale/ruler & try to nudge the lever to open the car.
Then I read in BBC TOPGEAR about an article that gave me ideas like gold plated silver key, pouring a peg of white spirits (vodka/gin/white rum) in the windshield washer for better cleaning etc

Yup, the only Octavia RS in Skoda Race blue in the world (I`m both optimistic and hopeful! hehe), the colour is available on the Octavia II RS and the FABIA RS.

I`ve managed to upload a picture in my garage in case you want to have a look, somehow the garage is playing up with uploading more pictures.

Honda is charging Rs. 5000 for 1 key and is giving a complimentary 2 month wait period and a police report stating that you've lost your keys along with it.

for 3 keys and a new locking tube and new ECU code it's Rs. 16000.

Honda in the US is charging USD 100 which at todays exchange is Rs. 4643.01 for a single key. So India isn't that bad...

Also bear in mind that these keys have coding chips in them similar to i-CATS, which means that keys machined by locksmiths/keymakers will not start the car [It'll do everything else just fine...]

In the US Accord blanks cost USD 55, then I have to get it cut and programmed by Honda here in India...So the cost is for the whole package not just for the fancy "Made in China" key fob...

cheers:

PS: Skoda is definately a rip off...European budget brand trying to be premium! Oh and Skoda is very much there in Singapore, Superbs are good taxis

Sorry for the ,

@evo: IMHO, your RS will look hotter if you paint the steel grey portions of your wheels to black or the same gold color of the spoke. currently there is no contrast because both spokes and lip colors are bright. Also, consider smoking your tail lamps.

These pics should give you an idea:

Black lip:

SKODA key at Rs.8000?-bl-rs-4.jpg

Gold lip:
SKODA key at Rs.8000?-bl-rs.jpg
SKODA key at Rs.8000?-bl-rs-5.jpg

Smoked tail lamps:
SKODA key at Rs.8000?-bl-rs-6.jpg

I had enough trouble giving up tobacco.

There's no way I'm going to start smoking tail lamps.

(or paying Rs.8,000 for a key. I really like the look of the Fabia, but...)

Do Maruti dealers also bargain on this?

What are the other options? Is there anyone else who makes these keys at
a reasonable price - I don't care to reset my code. I can make do with the old
code itself - inspite of losing one key, no one has stolen the car in the last 3-4
months - highly unlikely it will happen now.

About Skoda - Skoda is a rip-off in every way.
- 8000 for keys
- 7000 for an oil change
- 20000 for side mirror replacement
- 25000 for clutch replacement.

All these prices are hearsay, but I don't see any reason to doubt it.
For the swift, I think you can easily get the keys cut from a chabiwala.
